  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Posted this in the Montreal GDT but I think it probably belongs here too.

Nelson has 3g + 1a in his last two games, which is great as getting him going is really important for this team. His lack of production was a source of concern before this roadtrip but he's quelled those concerns. In 8 games since the TDL he now has 3g + 3a for 6 points in 8 games. That's 31 goal and 62 point pace which is right where you'd expect him to be.

The way he's scoring his goals is encouraging too, as it's not just snipes off good looks (which you don't always get a lot of in the playoffs), but he's also scoring from smart hockey plays around the net with a tip-in against Ottawa and another deflection against Montreal. Not to mention the screen on Oettinger on Nichushkin's goal against Dallas.

The assist on Lindgren's goal was also a beauty: he first gets a good shot off, then after Lehkonen and Necas recover the puck Nelson finds the open ice and before even receiving the puck he knew where Lindgren was. He's clearly a very smart player in the OZ, and its no surprise that the goals are starting to go in.

The new-look 2nd line of Lehkonen-Nelson-Necas looked great for the second game in a row, as the xGF% bears out.

I am so happy we are finally seeing this second line as I feel like as much fun as Mack-Necas was to start with we need these new line pairs for the playoffs. It maximizes our scoring across two lines.

I feel like this is the first time in a very, very long time when the 2nd line was better than the 1st line. There were a few games here or there with Mittelstadt, but the last time we had that consistently was Kadri. I really hope Bednar sticks with these lines and lets them build chemistry, because I love Drouin with Nate and Nichushkin deserves all the minutes, and meanwhile Necas belongs on a line where he can be the main puck carrier. It's just so perfect.

If Nuke can get his head on straight, he may very well be the vest 2 way forward in the league, at the very least, in the conversation.

With top line minutes, he could reach 100 point player status, but he has to be on the ice for that to happen...

Wasn't he in the top five in Selke voting one year? I know prior to getting busted there was a season where he got some votes. If they had ever considered wingers for the award, I imagine he'd have had one.

Just got done watching Landeskog vids. I’m reminded how he used to park himself in front of the net down low to screen the goalie or tip the puck. That had me thinking about Nelson’s tipping the puck. That guy is sneaky fast in getting to the net to screen the goalie or puck’s path to tip it. If Landeskog is fit to play then you would have Nuke, Nelson and Landeskog on each of the top 3 lines, it’d just be unfair. Of course that assumes Landeskog would be on the third line. But my gosh. What depth the Avs have.

Lehky is also pretty good at net front work.

Yeah, the Avs learned from how much losing Gabe and Val at the same time impacted their net front presence, and by extension their ability to win close games, and get pucks past goalies playing well.

Coyle is a beast in front of the net too.

Just in terms of deflections, the Avs might have the most specialists I've ever seen. Gabe has always been among the best at this. Then Val and Lehky got pretty good at it. Now Nelson seems good at it too.

This is so huge for their ability to win those close low scoring games in the playoffs, when the goalie is standing on his head. The only way to beat those guys sometimes is screens and deflections.
