Bettman's Enemy
In theory, yes. An elected official who is the farthest thing from ultra progressive was in favor of bike commuting until he tried it for a few weeks.Yeah that's probably why they want to improve the experience. Just a theory.
Bike lanes don't make the weather constantly 64 degrees with no humidity and no rain. This guy is an avid cyclist, but says in Charlotte summer, biking is a pain in the ass because you sweat buckets.
Bike lanes don't include showers in office buildings. He was told a few times that he wasn't all that pleasant to be around even after wiping down and changing. Wasn't fair to his co-workers.
Bike lanes cannot prevent motor vehicles from making right hand turns through the bike lane itself. Someone has to cede right of way, or create delayed lights which could add a lot of time to commutes for both the vehicle driver and the bicyclist.
Just saying, this guy went into it with good intentions and came out of it realizing that certain realities are out of anyone's control, and other than spending potentially billions on improvements for what amounts to 2% of the population while inconveniencing the other 98%, it's really a non-starter. He's not opposed to bike lanes for safety, he now can see why they aren't as practical as they may seem.
