The guy is a sociopath. One of the most overrated Rangers of all time.

He's also a genius because he used playing in big markets like LA and NY to further his brand.

Safety?!

With how NYC has done it?!

Let's cut the bullshit. I have 0 problems with bike lanes. Bicyclists themselves, on the other hand....

From still riding in the wrong direction, zig zagging between traffic, not obeying traffic rules ("Red light is only for cars! Screw pedestrians trying to cross the street!), oh, and let's not forget "bicyclists" also includes idiots on mopeds and other electric forms of transportation, bikes included.

And none of this tu quoque or false dichotomy nonesense, where if you're pissed off at bicyclists then you're A-OK with every single motorist on the road.

How in the blue do you allow so many of them to ride their bikes and there is a fraction of a fraction of laws in the books that penalizes dumb riders?
Wow, so many strawmans in one post. Impressive.

After you said you have zero problems with bike lanes, I'm not sure what anything else has to do with what I said.

No. You said they were designed for "safety," and the problem is a lot of people who use them are reckless, careless dickheads.

You can keep your carbon dioxide angle (And even that one is on shaky grounds considering people with electric powered mopeds, scooters, bikes, etc. also use and abuse those bike lanes), but bike lanes as of now I would not quantify as "safe."

Ok, but that doesn't change their intended purpose...

By the way, you could use the exact same logic for cars and roads, which are designed for safe transportation despite many users being reckless, careless dickheads.

outside of this incident, not sure why people think he is a piece of shit.
With three games remaining, the Kings unofficially suspended Avery for the remainder of the season after he refused to do a drill in practice.

During his time with the Kings, Avery has been said to have mocked Dustin Brown about his lisp. Former Kings' teammate Ian Laperrière said it "was bullying, like you might see in high school." But according to other players and coaches, Brown's lisp was not Avery's target, Brown's then girlfriend, now wife, Nicole was. Avery did not think Nicole Brown was glamorous enough to be a "girlfriend of a hockey player in Hollywood.

In December 2008, the NHL suspended Avery after he made controversial remarks about other players dating his ex-girlfriends.[19] After serving a six-game suspension and completing a counseling program, the Stars placed Avery on waivers on February 7, 2009.

His last game played with the Whale was on January 27, 2012. He was left off the Whale's Clear Day list of players eligible to play for the remainder of the AHL season submitted on March 5, and told to no longer report to games or practices.

During and after his hockey career, Avery has been involved in a number of controversies. The NHL and his teams have disciplined him multiple times. Outside of hockey, he has a history of bullying co-workers, support staff, and his own mother-in-law.

In November 2007, Howard Berger, a reporter for Toronto radio station FAN 590 stated that an unnamed Rangers player had accused Avery of commenting about Toronto Maple Leafs player Jason Blake's battle with leukemia, prior to a pre-game confrontation between Avery and Toronto's Darcy Tucker.[34] Avery, who denied the allegation, received an NHL-maximum $2500 fine, and Tucker received a $1000 fine.

On December 2, 2008, prior to the Stars' morning skate in preparation for a game against the Calgary Flames, Avery approached the assembled reporters in the dressing room and stated, "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds.

Commissioner Gary Bettman noted that both he and league disciplinarian Colin Campbell had warned Avery several times before about his behavior.[40] On December 14, after the last game of Avery's suspension, the Stars announced that Avery would not return to the team. One factor in the Stars decision was that coach Dave Tippett and several of the players, including Mike Modano and Marty Turco, let it be known they weren't willing to take him back on the team. Tippett had warned Avery not to talk to the media about his former girlfriends, and was outraged when he did so.[43][44] According to TSN's James Duthie, Avery's teammates had soured on him not long after he arrived. The "sloppy seconds" incident was the last straw, and Hicks had been actively looking to cut ties with him while the suspension was underway.[

In late 2014, Avery left rehearsals of a Broadway production he was a part of early after growing agitated. The next day, Avery’s behavior grew worse. According to witnesses, when a young assistant stage manager named Natalie asked the athlete-turned-actor if he wanted a slice of pizza, he said no, but somehow thought the assistant had called him an "a–hole." "It’s a complete horror story … Avery had a complete meltdown in rehearsals and quit. He pretty much snapped," witnesses told the New York Post.[49]

In 2016, Avery was served with a restraining order for harassing his mother-in-law. Beginning in summer of 2016, Avery "...was harassing her. They were running into each other, belonged to the same gym, and he’d issue profanities at her and make obscene gestures. He was driving in his car too close to her and scaring her."[50]

You really can't figure out that Avery is a total piece of shit?

The difference is that you have rules, laws in place that drivers have to abide by or they will either be fined, have their license revoked, have their car impounded, or face possible jail time, or all of the above. And people are still for harsher penalties, myself included.

And I'm not saying get rid of bicyclists or bike lanes, but there are glaring blind spots with how this city implemented it, and you have entitled pricks smack their bikes into people or get mouthy because they want the best of both worlds: to not only be able to ride in the street but to also have the right of way as pedestrians do.

Shit, one way to get money back into this city is you start ticketing these numbnuts.

I once had a neighbor who crossed over the road to bitch about my cat at the time. According to him it was killing birds on his property. This wasn't the first time. His wife had called my wife about a cat eating a bird thinking it was ours and my wife told her 'that's funny because he's sitting right here'. Anyway the neighbor when he talked to me got more and more heated because I wasn't giving him the respect he thought he deserved. I was being a bit dismissive. Cats kill birds and mice etc. etc. He wanted me to know that once upon a time he'd been a police officer in Maryland. I wasn't impressed. He told me that if he caught the cat on his property he'd kill it and then he f***ed off. I didn't like him very much.

A month or so later my cat was dead down the road run over by a car. Maybe even by him. A month or two after that he and his missus moved to another part of town. Avery's shit these days kind of reminds me of this guy. Someone who kind of elects himself to be the neighborhood watch and can't live in peace with those around him.

Then again, I'm not sure what your problem is with my original sentiment, which is that bike lanes -- not the people who use them, but BIKE LANES themselves -- are not the scourge of the earth. The rest is a waste of both our time.

Sean is a turd. I don't mind people sticking up for the bike lanes, though, and that's coming from someone who generally finds bicyclists to be a nuisance (particularly when you live in the sticks like me and you get stuck behind a group of them on a two-lane highway for 20 minutes).

I think it's an extremely fair comment to state that bicyclists can be complete douchenozzles when riding on roads...

Good list, but let's lose the Jason Blake one. It's not remotely credible.

I am aware of these issues you dug up and cut and pasted. Some of which were never proven and Avery denied. Like Jason Blake and Tucker. The guy has never been suspended for an on ice incident and was maybe the first athlete in any sport to promote equality. Im not going to go through the archives to defend him like you did to bury him but sounds like maybe he is more troubled than actaully a piece of shit. My opinion… you hate him and always will and probably love to hate him.

If a man can be hated by so many who knew him, he's garbage. Then, toss in all the stuff that he must have done that we never heard about because it happened to ordinary folk.

Oh, he denied that stuff. I guess everyone's lying. Must have been some sort of plot.

To you, not being suspended in the NHL is evidence of a good guy. Proof positive.

Maybe you were a big fan of his so you're prone to look the other way when it concerns him.

I don’t look the other way. I just don’t make it my mission to follow the guy like you do. Which is fine.

Why can’t I bring up his lack of on ice suspensions but you can bring up things that took place in the locker room? Locker room shit talking happens all the time. Avery is a hall of fame shit talker. I didnt say he was a good guy for not being suspended. I said his having no suspensions certainly works in his favor in this debate. There is far worse going on in the game than Avery and that includes when he was playing. I don’t think real pieces of shit put themselves out there when it wasn’t that accepted to say things like gay people should be treated with equality. He has a character and he plays to it to get some heat. It works because some people love to hate him.

And who uses those bike lanes? Who clamored for more of them?

At this point, it's symbiotic: you don't have one without the other.

I hate nike lanes. Wish we did bikes like they do in some european city. Bike lanes on the sidewalks. Bikes get the left side, people get the right. Bikes have a bell and eing it to warn people to step aside.

They do not belong on the street bc they pop out of nowhere or are in your blindespot. Or god forbid u open a sor and one hits u by accident. They also usually oney zero laws and do whatever the f*** they want and cause the accidents.

f*** bike lanes on streets.

I don't mind bike lanes (largely b/c i don't live in the city). But cyclists f***ing suck man. Especially the assholes who think they should ride in the middle of the road and refuse to move over so a car can pass them.

I've been real hesitant to dive back into this thread because it is really close to being political and this probably isn't the place for that.

All I'll say is at least in Charlotte, the people clamoring for bike lanes aren't necessarily bicyclists themselves. There aren't enough bicycle commuters to justify them, nor in this city is it practical to commute by bicycle. Some of the most stringent supporters of the "bike commuter club" have tried it and given up after a few weeks because it's highly stressful, dirty, and completely impractical. The biggest supporters of the bike lanes are ultra progressive types who use it to attack motor vehicles, not necessarily promote bike safety.

In many ways, the cyclists become their own worst enemies.

Yeah that's probably why they want to improve the experience. Just a theory.
