What a terrible, boring ass game. If the Wild keep playing like that, the NHL needs to add a shot clock to OT.

Also, Blackwood is a terrible shootout goalie. Not a big deal, but he gets way too far into his crease and reacts way too slow.

Got a point. They were clearly gassed. I’ll cut most of them slack, except Nelson needs to wake the f*** up. I thought he was supposed to be this big bull who wins puck battles but so far he’s been hesitant and—dare I say it—a bit soft.

My concern grows over Drouin’s game. He’s been mostly awful since the break. I’d say demote him but I’ve no idea who you promote.

Lastly, he was really good in regulation and OT but Jesus Christ Blackwood had by far the worst shootout performance I’ve ever seen by an Avs goalie. Jesus, what was THAT!? Still, the game wouldn’t have even ended in a tie had it not been for him.

Just flush this one. Get some rest and hopefully Nelson will have gotten over the trade or whatever the f*** is bothering him.

Honestly, that's a textbook OT that shows that we need some sort of a rule change to make the 3v3 more dynamic. This is assuming they are dead set on keeping it but it's just not good. Make it so that the team that gains the zone cannot carry the puck back out the blue line. Do something. That was 5 minutes of dog shit.
The rule change should be going back to 4 on 4. 3 on 3 is dogshit and always has been. Teams are afraid to do anything because any bounce can lead to a breakaway. Even if you were not allowed to skate back everyone would still be clutching their sticks. If you have to come up with a bunch of contrived situational rules maybe the format just sucks and you should not do it.

Like I stated in my post, the rule changes are based on the assumption that they're keeping 3v3 which for all intents and purposes, they seem to be hellbent on doing. They have to do something. That shit would have pissed me off if the Avs did that and won.

Going to cut Nelson and Coyle a bit of slack since they’re still probably adjusting to a new team but I hope we see more out of them soon
We should probably cut everyone some slack. B2b and Rycroft said they got to the hotel at 3AM. The only one I'm not gonna give a pass is Necas. That wasn't a mistake made by fatigue, that was just f***ing stupid.

Remember, folks, it took Manson/Lehkonen a while to adjust to the Avs in 2022. Almost everyone who joins says it takes a bit to adjust.

Nelson has played for one team his entire career and it's almost exclusively been a trap-based team. It is going to take time. It won't happen overnight.

I didn’t like his game, but worth mentioning Nelson-Jost hit two posts tonight.

That makes more sense now, they really looked fatigued. But like you said, Necas botched that badly. However, seeing as he’s been amazing since he got here I’ll give him a pass as well as long as those kind of mistakes are the exception

So was the game as bad as TMV made it sound on Twitter? Lucky to have missed if if so.
Yes. Especially the OT session. Wylde were clearly going for the shootout and the Avs just kinda plodded along and didn’t challenge anyone. Most unwatchable game I’ve seen in a long, long while.

Yup. Avs actually looked good to start the game most of the 1st period, then they just ran out of gas and both teams basically played rest of the game not to lose, specially the Wild in the OT. And the NHL should get rid of shootouts

Didn't help that Mack lost both OT faceoffs.

The other thing I'll say about Brock Nelson is that despite having another poor showing overall, he was half an inch away from none of us giving a shit about that. Even on a bad night his shot remains dangerous.
True. Even if Nelson isn’t scoring bunch of points so far in 3 games, it doesn’t seem like he’s gonna frustrate us like Mitts did. He just needs little bit time to get used to playing on a new team
