Ottawa reminds me of a more talented but just as mentally fragile version of the 2016-17 Avs.

They need Jiggy to come into the locker room and call them out.
I like their core. I think with the right coach/management they could really make some noise. But yeah they do remind me of the pre success Avs a bit.

On paper their core is great. But there's obviously something rotten in the locker room.

Wouldn't be surprised if trading a player like Chabot or Tkachuk is what turns around the ship. Giroux is the 'leadership', but realistically the team revolves around Chabot and Tkachuk, the most tenured of the core. Avs got lucky and Duchene requested a trade which finally washed off the loser stink (I don't solely blame Duchene for the losing culture), but we'll see what happens in Ottawa.

Good depth scoring tonight. Malinski is a keeper. I like Justus handling the puck, if we finally had a starter capable of handling the puck we would be that much better.

It’s something I work with my goalies on a ton.

I had a parent once question why I spend so much time on that; wrapping pucks around the boards, reversing passes behind the net, etc. I try to explain to them how much better and healthier your defense is when they have a goalie who can retrieve pucks, the significantly less wear and tear on them over the course of a season pays big dividends.

No defenseman likes knowing his goalie can’t and won’t handle the puck, you’re either going to rush retrievals or get hammered over and over by a strong forechecking team.

Amen. Especially with our small defense. We should pair it with a puck handling 1G. Such a natural fit.

Idk about Tkachuk. I mean remember the Avs almost traded Landy and people were somewhat coming around to it? I feel like it's a similar situation to that. I think he's a good captain and trading him would ultimately be a mistake.
