It's going to sound like a copout, but missing Nuke and Girard is really big. Unless you are breaking up Makar and Toews, we have one pair driving offence from the backend. Bednar's style really stems from having that strong puck moving D. Girard is paramount on that.

And we all know what a playdriver Nuke is. Winning corner battles, doing stuff in front of the net... He would improve the PP alone drastically.

It's not an excuse for the poor effort, but I think some of that stems from frustration, which is caused by the lack of those two guys who are paramount to this team right now.

Hell, they got 7 of them on a single PP. The Avs are more likely to give up 7 short handed chances against than to get 7 shots on goal on a PP

He was an easy punching bag and, most of the time, for good reason. Now that they have a legitimate starting goaltender it's obvious to see where the real deficiencies are.
