All I'm really invested in at this point is Gabe's status.

I'm waiting for the day he get's the honest to god green light, skates out on the ice and knocks the clipboard out of Bednar's hands and says, "Me, Nate, Nuke, Cale and Toews have got this shit over here. Bedsy, you go get everyone else right on the other side fo the rink."

13 and 88 can’t play together.

13 is AWFUL on the left wing.

27 - 29 - 13
62 - 11 - 88

That was winning hockey games and both lines scoring.
But somebody said before the game that Bednar needs to try something else and not the winning lines
The "big guy line" has looked awful and 1st is missing Val big time.

Bednar is just probably playing 4d chess to get back to 1st wildcard spot to face the Pacific teams keeping these lines together.

27-29-13
62-11-88
92-10-25
94-18-17
20

7-8
49-6
55-42
70

39
41

This would be my s1g1 lineup. Folks gonna bitch about me scratching RosCo, but damnit... dudes making damn near Lehky money but I honestly like Kivi better at LW in the bottom six. Also.. EJ is only in the lineup because it's Gabe's first game back. I'd normally prefer 49-42 and 55-70 when fully healthy unless we need EJ's 'leadership' (read that as willingness to do what ever it takes to help the Avs win...even if it involves a suspension).

Don’t care about the loss, but that’s another game of the refs proving they’re stupid and incompetent, and the Avs showing their shooting accuracy is dogshit.

Might as well start with he dummies in stripes first. For some reason they always think they’re calling the game even by letting the trailing team get away with blatant penalties, while not giving the leading team any power plays. By giving them 2.5 periods of getting away with cheating, it allows them to come back and tie the game, and eventually win, when the score might have been higher if they called the peanlties they took.

These aren’t iffy calls either. Flame player grabs Makar with his free hand and pulls him to the ice on the backcheck. Cody Beach watches Klapka crash into Wedgewood without being touched and refuses to call a penalty. Cody Beach also called that soft cross check on Lindgren that led to the 2-1 goal that changed the momentum. Cody Beach also watched Makar get punched in the face by Coleman and didn’t call a penalty either, the outside ref did.

Cody Beach was also the guy that changed the momentum in the Blues game calling that weak flop by Sundqvist in a 1-1 game in the third. Cody Beach also called MacKinnon a few minutes later for tripping from just a few feet away when Faksa tripped himself. Cody Beach also watched Lindgren get elbowed in the head without calling anything after the Blues had three power plays in the third. Notice a pattern here? How does this guy have a job in the NHL when he consistently sucks so bad?

Liked the defensive effort from the Avs for most of the game, but once again they cause their own problems by not being able to run up the score the way they should, when they're controlling the game.

Would like to see more Nelson when he’s not scoring. Love his goal scoring ability, but passing and puck handling haven’t always been where they needed to be to sustain O zone time. Hopefully he can improve in these areas.

Lehky and Val have been too quiet lately. Not that big a deal as long as they turn it back on for the playoffs, but they need to do so. Didn't like Lindgren's game either.

I’ve been harping on the Avs shooting accuracy for a long time, but they desperately need to work on their this before the playoffs. MacKinon and Makar specifically hit too many posts and miss the net too often.

Liles said MacK and Cale are 1 and 2 in hit posts this year and Mikko is 3rd. That’s not a fluke. I think they just work so hard to hound pucks, backcheck hard, and create scoring chances that sometimes I think they just let up when they go to shoot instead of bearing down on their shots.

It’s causing the new guys problems too. Typifying the problem, friggin Klapka snipes a shot in the circle, and then on the next shift Nelson gets the puck wide open in the circle himself and shoots it wide. Work on your shots before the playoffs guys please!

Almost seems like the Avs are sleepwalking through the last bunch of games. New lines, not a ton of effort and guys aren’t meshing. I don’t mind trying new lines, but this team shouldn’t be falling ass backwards into the playoffs. They’re too good for that.

You can always count on Mack to make it exciting by giving up puck possession with low % shots. There isn't a shot he doesn't like in OT.
It's mind blowing, we got high skills and and great cardio as team. We should cycle the puck at high tempo until the opposition is gased or there is a breakdown. Just poor coaching.

I don't think it's coaching, it's Mack being Mack. He did the same at the 4 nation tournament, fans of other teams were calling him greedy.

I don't think Mack his hurt. I may be wrong but I feel like he always slows down towards the end of the year. Maybe someone can look into the stats. I know it happened last year. Whether it's intentional or not I don't know.

Agreed, it's more a coaching issue. We've seen it for years now, there is just no consistent structure or remote thought of making a system adjustment.

If we lose to Dallas or Vegas round 1, then you really have to think about making a change. CMac worked his ass off to give this year's team a chance. But you damn well know that Bednar just going to roll the same strategy he has for years and hope for either a 29 and 8 flat carry or hope that Blackwood goes white hot. Which neither will probably happen.

It's getting tougher to defend Bednar, especially with another disappointing early playoff loss season looming.

I hear there is a damn good coach 15 mins down the road at DU, maybe have to consider it.

Not the best response after a the Cale cheap shot I must say. As others said just seems like the team is content to just coast to the playoffs knowing who our opponent will be. Just hope they'll be able to turn up the intensity in that time because it's going to be a blood bath.

Maybe he learned his lesson. That's possible, right?

He's been very good for the flames for the last 3 years. But I guess #2C's grow on trees, so I can see the logic.
So what? He's the guy you ultimately reached the pinnacle with and has been worth every penny on a shit Flames team. You KNEW he was a fit at 2C.

Brock has been fine. Mediocre. But mediocre doesn't help propel you through the playoffs like the other guy did.

My point wasn't that they should have kept Kadri, the point was it took him 2 years to figure it out in Denver. Maybe giving Nelson longer than 3 weeks (or in most cases here, more than 2 games) would be wise? But if you all want to continue to cry about not keeping Kadri 3 years ago, I guess that's your perogative.

Avs are biggest pushovers in the league. Dunno is this Bednard fault but it sends wrong message to both our and opposition players. Game after game guys are getting smoked and if guy cant fight no one will step up to send a message, even for biggest stars in team. When Middleton step up against Xhekaj that meant something and Brock gave him that big hat for that move and team loved it. That passion and bond is something to build on before playoffs and hopefully Lando can bring that if he comes back for playoffs.

In 2022 Avs also lost crazy amounts of games at the end of the regular season. Didn't they go like 2-5 in the last 7 games on the season? Maybe Avs just don't want to give 110% effort because they know that they will face Dallas and don't want to risk any injuries.

He for sure is just waiting for the playoffs, the entire team is and it makes perfect sense.

They have basically nothing to play for. Only thing that matters is staying healthy and ready to go for game one.

Bednar should start distributing the ice time more evenly. No reason that Makar plays 27 and Mack 23 minutes in a game like this.

They'll fight if and when they need too, but they don't waste unnecessary energy, nor take dumb penalties, in post whistle scrums, and Bednar doesn't want them doing it.
