BTW, Bednar said Georgiev was good when they asked him postgame, so that probably puts a little dent in our hopes of getting rid of Georgiev. Seems like with every praise Bednar gives Georgiev, he’s safe as far as being traded or waived
I don’t think Bednar attempting to keeping Georgie’s mental state/ego in a decent place has anything to do with his potential position on this team.

Yeah but usually Bednar is somewhat honest and would say goaltending wasn’t good enough, or it needs to be better etc… after this Hawks game he said Georgiev was good. He said the 1st goal maybe he’d want back but after that he was good

Um, if they’re trying to trade him why in the world would they say bad things about him?

Yeah but it’s not like the GMs don’t know Georgiev has been bad. I’m not sure if there is a desperate enough team out there that would trade for Georgiev right now

Absolutely true, I don't think anyone wants anything to do with the single worst goalie in the league. I just don't think the Avs are going to torpedo that nil value even further by publicly slagging him either. At this point maybe he gets waived but even then he'll have to regain his confidence in the AHL (unlikely but it's the only thing they can hope for).

IMO it is all simply a mind game. George is the only goalie here with the ceiling needed to contend. Annunen has done well in his starts, but the likelihood of it holding up for the whole season just isn't high. Keeping George engaged until they can figure out something is simply a necessity.

What's more likely, Juicy consistently being middle of the pack or Fourgiev consistently being above .900?

I disagree that Georgiev is the only goalie that can make this team a contender. Goalie is the one position, where a player might go on a spectacular SC run on an otherwise mediocre NHL career.

That said, they will keep Georgiev around because they are hoping for him to get mentally fixed and I don't disagree with that. It doesn't make sense wasting assets to get rid of him, you can't get a surefire replacement on the market anyway, so might as well keep him around. As the #3 at this point, until Annunen or Kähkönen give a reason for the coaching staff to give Georgiev another shot.

I mean on the roster. This team probably needs a guy who is ~.908-.912 guy AND can steal a few games. I don't think Annunen can hit that level as a whole, but really don't think he can steal games even if he could.

Well, I think Kähkönen has a higher ceiling than Annunen. That's not exactly a hot take. I think Kähkönen can be good enough, if we get the rest of the roster going.

Out of our current options I'd bet on Juice 100 times out of 100 with Kähkönen as back up.

I dunno, a guy who’s a worse puck tracker than effing Grubauer is not a guy I really think can backstop a team missing a ton of players and experiencing regular defensive breakdowns.

I think for short spurts, any of them can hold that level.... as we are looking at 40-50 games starting and then (hopefully) 25-28 games in the playoffs it is just hard to see for Kahkonen.

George is an absolute headcase and I don't think he has the consistency to be reliable, but what he does have is really high end athletic gifts and with that, he can absolutely steal games.

This is rock and a hard place though on both sides... the goalies who we have some certainty can play at that level are just not available until their teams lose hope for the playoffs. Any guys you acquire today who have that potential or shown it... are available because they are like George.

Well, I disagree because Kähkönen has proved to be the better goaltender than Kähkönen on every level they've played so far.
