Nuke hit the wall tonight. It was like he was playing in a different time zone from everyone else.

MacK is so good that even when he'snot playing his best, he still gets points and sets up his line mates. He's been a wee bit off of late. Slightly out of synch, taking the wrong angle to the play, losing the puck when its on his blade... And his FO skills remain intermediate. At best.

I disagree on Nuke, maybe he drives all the way to the net, and carries the puck out with three guys hanging on him at his full speed, but he drew a penalty basically doing just that.

He's off, but he isn't that off. He still receives the puck in the neutral zone, and takes only three strides to get from red to red.

He isn't fueled by cocain anymore, but the brain and power is still there.

I liked his game, both games considering normal human shit that we're not used to with him.

Maybe this was mentioned early on but I don't understand why the Avs were blacked out on NHL Network in an away game.

I have xfinity... which is a known complication. But is the Comcast/Altitude war still going on?

I mean, I found a hydrologic connection but WTH?

Was the game on Altitude via either Dish or via the new Altitude App?

No I haven't subscribed to Altitude yet because I just learned it now directly supports Android TVs. Maybe it's time?....

I'd love if they got 32

All situations:

Shot Attempts 68-54 Avs
Shots on Goal 29-26 Avs
Scoring Chances 36-27 Avs
High Danger Chances 11-8 Flyers
xGF 2.56-2.13 Avs

Rantanen, MacKinnon, and Nichushkin all had very poor games.

That's now back to back games where Nichushkin has looked like a bag of ass.

Nuke plays exactly like he did when he came back from his first suspension last year.

Sober Nuke is a bottom-6 depth guy

Snowed up Nuke is a top-line Selke caliber sniper

This feels pretty harsh for a guy who had zero training camp. I mean, he's good but he's not freakin' Peter Forsberg... it's going to take some time for him to get going.

Sam Malinski was excellent... Shittington was brutal - he looks like a beer league guy out there. Sammy G has a good bounce back game.

I'm surprised of all people you'd give jack shit for leeway to a returning player, but you seem like a Herb Brooks coach lol.

I'd have f***ing punched you on the bench, but liked you as a coach. 😘

I'm not dissing Nuke. I think he's still adjusting his game and line mates and played more like an individual than a cohesive lineman. He certainly isn't the dominating Nuke we all enjoyed in the past.

Yet.

According to altitude, they don't blackout the games the NHL blacks them out for them. "For their own protection". The game was on Altitude+. That's how I watched it. I have no complaints with it so far. It also appears to have less stream lag than Fubo or even when the game was on local channel 20 and I streamed it through the Xfinity stream app. So that's a huge positive in my book. If everything goes smoothly the next couple games, I'll probably cancel my Fubo subscription, since I don't use it for anything else.

The first goal is unlucky. Goalies always let ones in like that every now and then. He's trying to look around the screen, doesn't hear the shot get taken, then it's in the back of the net. If it was clean without a screen, then I'd be much more upset about it.
Most goalies let that one in occasionally. He ALWAYS lets that one in. Shots from distance beat him far too often. Even with a screen I’d like to see better awareness.

Practically speaking, he's still adjusting. I get that.

Hell, it's an opinion board where you get to freely present your observations. IF we were handing out grades for performance, I'd give Nuke a C+ knowing he's capable of sustained A+ performance.

All reasonable explanations.

You're a dick, admit it lol

I agree actually, but I'm more at a B- myself.

I'm seeing the foundation of what makes him good, but a slight lack of confidence.

Which makes sense with how mentally rough his first interview was. He was absolutely shaking answering questions. I respect that he seems to be starting with the power forward, defensive style more than sacrificing it to get into scoring position. Which is what Mikko did.

Drouin is doing the same thing, trying to play the right way instead of leaning towards the offensive end of the ice.

This is the team, minus a 3C I don’t really like as the 3C..

Unless Landeskog comes back like freak and pushes Lehhky to 3LW, which is possible.

Even you have to admit.. Goalie might be the most important thing to add. I'd like a better 5/6D, but they neeeeeeed a goalie.

I'm all about Gibson, the trade to a playoff team will turn that dude into a monster I think.

Even you have to admit, they can't go into the playoffs with these two.

Absolutely something needs to change in goal. That needs to be our focus.

I seen guys who were ripped not be able to keep up in SFAS (Special Forces Assessment and Selection) during log drills, obstacles, running, ropes etc. Those guys that looked like the Rock lasted days, and if they lasted longer had injuries.

Hench talks about it, and I agree. Muscle isn't always the answer.

Have enough to hall your ass and your equipment over the wall. Anything more is not efficient.

I was like 180lbs at 5'11 at 22 when I made it through that.

Makar is listed at 187lbs at 6', but I'm pretty sure he's like 5'11.5" lol unless he grew after the draft combine. Very similar build to him and Duchene.

People like Nuke are freaks.. I've seen a couple. Watching a giant man that's 6'2 210lbs run a 6:30 mile.. You can feel it in the ground while next to them running.

Those people might as well be Khan/Vulcan lol.
Again, 100%. Sent a PM that indicated a vocation that where muscle mass as detriment to just plain function within one’s body and discipline.. goes to your analysis. 100% spot on your take on this.

Takes me to for instance the different martial arts disciplines have been in to, where the cut and mass dudes often would go to strength... and get owned, and injured, shocked by the least likely appearance-wise. Not just getting thrown around by dudes, and ladies… but the shock impact of hits or strikes would be mystifying to the cut guys. Not to the deliverers of said disciplines of course. Totally responding to your “You can feel it in the ground while next to them running”.. translates to when getting tagged by a less than assuming physical specimen that rattles your fillings, you can feel the energy emanates a few feet from into the earth, and those guys, and ladies, have that *it* thing. Have been tagged by a few Vulcans.

Look at G tonight.

And Nuke is a freak yep. Pondered his dealing with his demons, the wrong question is how can one function at such high levels as he had been capable while doing Val extracurricular stuff. A different er question is strap on some wires and sensors and analyze the guy while doing his Val stuff. I focused on his skating this eve and was curious about what his last few months of training were like, leading up to his return. Game conditioning, no duh. But thought it appeared he had some flexibility that I dunno, induced by gym time, ice time, but also stretching in the regime?? Mebbe a leap to think that came across but, mebbe not.

Anywayz… all this circles back to juice, and agreeing with your take on his fast twitch function and what could be brought to his training to improve. There is definitely room for improvement. Be interesting to have access to an Avs trainer to ask that thinking.

Always into these nuanced ideas, convos. Across you-name-it-disciplines. Man, the training techniques, the sports medicine… man… incredible what has happened over even a few short years. I poke around here only gametime so dunno what people's takes are on Landy. Mebbe can go find some board discussions on what people here think about Landy prognosis? Stuff like that, all cool...

Hey guys I just wanted to let everyone know that Lukas Dostal is having a great breakout season and is cementing himself as a top goalie in the league. I'm really excited because we picked Sampo Ranta 7 spots ahead of him so he should really come together soon and completely knock it out of the park.
