Auston Matthews is one of the worst even-strength scorers in the entire league

He has peaked, nothing wrong with that. Still a good player, not going to get league max like people were crying about. The truth is in his entire career he's closer to a PPG player than a 60 goal-100 point guy.
He's peaked at the ripe old age of 25?

Meh. He’s having a pretty mediocre start to the season by his standards. I still think he will heat up. That said, I think last season was probably his high water mark. But then expecting that type of production every year is pretty unrealistic. He’s still a great player.

What lol?

The past 3 seasons (half of his NHL career) he was was pacing for 93 points (closer to 100 than 82), 104 points and 124 119 points.

Mans been the best 5 on 5 goal scorer since entering the league and because hes in a slump some Habs fan gotta make a thread about it trying to act like the dude is washed.

Hes also shooting 6% lower than his career average atm.

Nice that you’ve discovered the truth after 17 games this year and that the 100+ previous ones were all lies.

Once again, Leafs hate continues to be more annoying than Leafs fans

I've been waiting for the right thread to say this and somewhat random, perhaps..

But TOR coach has GOT to stop saying "our elite players" in interviews. It's divisive, alienating and likely builds envy & resentment. Creates an us vs them mentality and I can imagine it can get cliquey. He should just say "our scorers" or "top 6 players".

Cos think about this for a second, even the worst player on TOR would score 15-30 goals in a beer league game. They're ALL elite players. They worked their ASS off to get where they are, and all players PRIDE themselves at being elite.

It basically sends a message that if you don't score-- you're not 'elite'. Well guess what? Bottom 6 players absolutely ID as being elite defensively or however way they can help out. They identify as being elite as young as pre-teenage years.

Even bottom 6 players were the best of the best under age 16 and likely dominated games.

To say "our elite players" you're basically saying everyone else sucks.

It's not cool. There's plenty different phraseologies to ID certain players & communicate the message.

FWIW, seems like the Leafs losing in the first round -- again -- after having a pretty good season in 21-22, has thrown Matthews into a long-term emotional funk and he desperately needs a change of venue. Despite his early-season woes, the Leafs could probably still reap a nice bounty by dealing him, which would be best for all concerned.

True he's washed. Trade him to the Oilers for Foegele and Puljujarvi who've combined for 2 even strength goals in 16 and 17 games respectively at half the cost.
