Hyman was the best goal scorer this season. Yes Matthews got 70 goals too but only one goal that mattered while Hyman had SIXTEEN times that amount.

Matthews needs to be the best goal scorer next season. Can't lose to players making 8 million less than him.

No, he wasn’t.
Matthew’s didnt have the best player in the world feeding him tap ins all season and playoffs long because he decided he was allergic to goalscoring in 2023-24

And Matthews scored his 70 goals in significantly less games.

Little bit off topic but it really does lend itself to the fact that they need to drastically reduce the amount of regular season hockey. Honestly 60 games would be enough, still maybe even too much. You never get to see guys at their best deep in the playoffs.

I don’t see this being a schedule issue at all, more of our players are the issue.

I think the actual issue is fans presuming to have any idea the details or severity of what Nylander and Matthews dealt with and then judging them on their baseless assumptions.

We will never know everything, but by most accounts Nylander was dealing with migraines. Assuming that came with noise and light sensitivity as it does for many of us, it likely was debilitating and it would have been incredibly irresponsible and dangerous both for himself and the rest of the players in the game to let him try to take part in the games (Nylander also has a history of migraines to further support this)

As for Matthews without the details of the illness, the symptoms he was displaying and the injury he sustained after, which we aren’t going to get how can anyone arrive at any kind of conclusions with relation to his resolve to play?

Both were kept out of play by the team doctors so if people have a problem with how it was handled based on their utter lack of knowledge of the situations at play, then blame the medical staff.

So what's the excuse for the other 7 years?

I mean if you're blaming their poor performance when they did play this year on injuries, whats the excuse for every other playoff?

I literally didn’t say a single thing about the games they played in.

This whole discussion started as baseless criticism of what held our guys out of the playoff lineup vs completely unsubstantiated reports of what McDavid and Draisaitl allegedly played through.

The issue is not the fans. It's not the media. It's not the EVIL market. You People will blame everyone except for your God Kings.

We judge them based on the standard that is set by the league. We judge their contracts based on the same thing. It's not our fault that the standard for professionalism for this organization is non-existent. The biggest choke in franchise history in the most storied rivalry in the league, and nothing changes except the "leaders" on this team asking for no more dress code.

They were ready to go for 82 and then suddenly disappeared. With little to no explanation. When asked they get defensive. Of course people question their heart. This started long before they decided to quit and not dress for the games, we've all seen them quit on the ice too. For years. It's like You People don't even know what the Stanley Cup is all about and why it's so coveted in this country.

There's no medical professional on the planet that could stop the true great players from competing for the Cup. But we're not allowed to even ask questions to guys that get paid more than all of their peers in a limited dollar system. God forbid that we want to enjoy something for once in our lives after dedicating all of this time, money, and attention to the team.

New Beiber jersey is in the mail.

If we're counting regular season and playoffs goals all of a sudden, then Ovi isn't anywhere near close beating Gretzkys goal scoring record... So what is it?

The lack of transparency simply invites speculation. When you aren’t forthcoming with details people can’t weigh the severity of these issues against more conventional hockey injuries.

What a load of absolute garbage. I was solely talking about people jumping conclusions about their ability to play through their injuries that kept them out or not and comparing them against other players for whom we also don't know the true extent of any injuries.

Yep, that's all true. Which is exactly why people shouldn't do it.

Not enough heart to win, unfortunately, maybe if you cheer harder for them next year they will.

True. Nothing to see here, just randomly disappeared during the most important games again. Not only should we not ask about it, we shouldn't even talk about it. Blame it on the unnamed medical staff that notoriously has no power over anything. If only that pesky Medical Staff didn't detain our warriors.

If Matthews played with Connor McDavid.

The Oilers would have won the Cup.
Matthews would have the most goals scored in the post season
Mcdavid would have the most points in the post season.

No one said you can't / shouldn't talk about it or have questions around it. Stop being so dramatic.

According to some Marner fans, he did. :sarcasm:
