For all the hand wringing about offensive contribution - and nobody doesn’t want more from 34 and 16 - the Panthers top line has managed 0 goals 5v5 so far in this series. We can thank Matthews and Marner predominately for that.

Matthews is doing good things all over the ice in all situations. Not surprised to see those statistics. He might not have scored in the game but I'm left impressed with his game and the Leafs win so that's good.

I think his play has been solid all things considered. Defensively - I've loved his game. Would I love a goal or two? Yes. He's clearly being hindered by what ever injury he needed to go to Germany for. Despite that he is still creating and the line is winning their minutes.

I think it’s feeling rushed in the moment. Kinda panic blasted that Knies set up earlier in the game too so I would think he wanted to score, felt the urgency and pressure everywhere and just didn’t take a breath or his time. But he’s gotta be better. We need a massive Matthews game to go up 2-0 in the series.

He believes in 18 players on the ice all filling roles. He understands who is struggling, who is going and has them believing in team first.
