Does anyone have credible information that Auston wants more than Mack?
Seriously, does anyone have anything credible?

Ovechkin is #3 in ESG behind Matthews and McDavid during that same span. And he dominates at even strength scoring here too. While guys like Ovie lean hard on the PP to drive his totals
Because the spoiled Leaf team has great players. You and others seem to want mediocrity. Playoff bubble teams who mean well but don't have a chance in hell.No we weren't. But why does it have to be one extreme or the other? Why can't we be like Tampa, Pittsburgh, Chicago, or Colorado where we lock-in our stars long-term and enjoy the ride? I don't understand the rationale of using miserable Leafs teams vs. spoiled Leafs teams as the only valid measuring stick.
Crosby, Kane, Stamkos, Hedman, Malkin each signed 5x year deals post ELC just like Matthews though before their big deals...
stop paying for "paces" and "the future".
start paying for actual results.
culture needs to change from murses to results.
Just what insiders have said. Highest paid and will not be for max term.Does anyone have credible information that Auston wants more than Mack?

Elite regular season players maybeWe've finally drafted and developed elite players after decades of misery and there's a faction here who wish to throw them out with the bath water.
Yeah, and the super expensive ones are all forwards. We've finally drafted and developed elite players after decades of misery and there's a faction here who wish to throw them out with the bath water.
I call what he actual scores.Goal pace...
2016-2017: 40
2017-2018: 45
2018-2019: 45
2019-2020: 55
2020-2021: 65
2021-2022: 67
2022-2023: 44
While getting abnormally low PP time through his career, and playing injured in a couple of those seasons.
Calling that just a 40 goal scorer is pretty misleading, even aside from stripping away all of the other things he's elite at.
I wonder how many of those teams had 50% of their cap in four similar forwards. No we weren't. But why does it have to be one extreme or the other? Your method essentially blames him for the league playing less games due to a global pandemic, which ends up misrepresenting what he actually scores and brings to a team relative to the rest of the league.I call what he actual scores.

‘Credible’ means different things to different people.Does anyone have credible information that Auston wants more than Mack?

Auston Matthews is turning 26 this year and figures to still do his best regular season work and put together his playoff legacy over the next number of seasons.
He also has 1 year remaining on his current deal, so whatever length we're talking about will in essence be a X+1 contract length, taking him to a certain age likely in his early 30s.
The reason why a 6 year deal makes sense is because you're getting him for the next 7 years. That's a very long run for him to prove himself, and at 32-33, he will be John Tavares' age now, so that's a perfect time to reassess, re-sign, recommit, whatever. It's just flexibility. Insisting on the full term to take him up to 35 is just more commitment for the sake of commitment.
There are other aspects to goal scoring in the game of hockey. Ovi when not producing brings in other elements like hitting, etc.
When matthews and marner are not scoring they are useless. This is even more relevant to Tavares who can't even keep up with the speed of the game and has a 11 AAV cap hit

Ovechkin is pretty much as one-dimensional goal-scoring as you can get, and Matthews and Marner bring exponentially more outside of scoring. There are other aspects to goal scoring in the game of hockey. Lol say what, Matthews brings far more to the game beyond scoring than Ovechkin does
Compared to Matthews Ovechkin is a powerplay specialist who hits well, does not drive play at all at ES. Comparing the ES play of Matthews and Ovechkin at this point would be like comparing Ovechkin and a 4th liner. Even when taking into consideration the amount of powerplay time they each receive since Matthews career began Ovechkin is not even a better PP scorer.
I recall Dreger saying $14+ and thought he was nuts. Turns out he was right after you reduce the term to 5 years.I recall Dreger and Friedman kept saying matthews will get 12M for 5 years when he was about to sign his first post ELC contract. I thought they were out to lunch but hey they were pretty close.
Same guys are speculating now 15 AAV for 5 years, i am gonna be so freakin' mad if that happens

No worries, it can't possibly be $15m. More likely 13.34x3 or 5.
