What is the big deal with these guys and being highest paid when it lasts for a short time (except McDavid) most of the time? I still think if AM has not learned by now that whatever "extra" he takes is coming from another player on his team then he will never learn. I think the ask from their camp is all you need to know about his priorities. It really is plain and simple.Correct. I'm even fine with 12.7 so he's the highest paid.
We hear about the players association encouraging guys to take as much as they can, but with the cap all it does screw the little guy that can be sent up and down to save daily cap dollars. What is the big deal with these guys and being highest paid when it lasts for a short time (except McDavid) most of the time? They have to trade him if he won’t sign.Is Matty going to be the next own rental? .... they dont sign him that is the end of Shanny.
Why do people keep pushing this tired and stupid narrative that is so far outside reality?Even Spezza would step up and push back. Not AM though, he'll get rag dolled and laugh. Says it all, about the whole team really . Dubas made everyone comfy and paid so why go to war ?
makes them feel good about some kind of straw man they created but instead of arguing agains that straw man they argue in favour of it. confuses the hell out of me.Why do people keep pushing this tired and stupid narrative that is so far outside reality?
It's really pathetic that there are many dead set on making things up to to rile up the moronic masses who have no critical thinking ability.
A quick search disproves this theory.
At the time when Toronto was eliminated, Matthews was one of the most physically engaged players of the 16 teams.
I wonder what people like this get out of pushing lies....
Weird to me.
Oreilly doesn't fight but he plays physical, he also is a smythe winner. Matthews engaged physical, more so than a lot of elite players. In fact there are at least 3 goals in the past two lightning series where Matthews physical play creates the goal. He also blocks more shots then typical elite players. Think he's still up there among top players.Even Spezza would step up and push back. Not AM though, he'll get rag dolled and laugh. Says it all, about the whole team really . Right logically speaking there is $83.5 million per team, almost every team spend to the cap. If one player makes $15 mil and the team spends to the cap or the entire team makes 4+ mil each and spends to the cap, there is no "more" money for the players, it works out to the same in the end.We hear about the players association encouraging guys to take as much as they can, but with the cap all it does screw the little guy that can be sent up and down to save daily cap dollars.
We’ve heard players from around the league chuckle at the Leafs cap situation , so let’s see what they do. AM is not the best player in the NHL and may not even be top 5 and he’s proven that he gets lost in big games.
Yeah players say it, they're too easy to play against, management talks about lack of a killer instinct and sticking up for eachother, we've seen countless times when players skate away after seeing someone get nailed into the biards, face-washed etc . It happened with Knies and Kampf in the playoffs. But a couple of homer posters see. it differently and everyone else is wrong. AM may play physical at times but not nearly enough. And don't get rag dolled and smile. Now go back to your high horseWhy do people keep pushing this tired and stupid narrative that is so far outside reality?

LMAO your not a leafs fanFact: Matthews lied to management about the mooning incident
Fact: Matthews father promoted and participated in the furtherance of that lie.
Fact: The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
There is a distinct lack of character exhibited in all that.
Fact
When you can be so far in the minority on a view the mature approach is to reassess your view instead of insulting others. Why do people keep pushing this tired and stupid narrative that is so far outside reality?

Matthews is not going to be traded unless he goes to management and says I’m leaving like Tkachuk. If he says nothing, he won’t be moved. Assume he has a NMC right now.14 days to find out if he stays. By June 22 he must agree to new contract or Treliving MUST begin looking for a trade partner. Leafs cannot allow him to walk.
No you don't.When you can be so far in the minority on a view the mature approach is to reassess your view instead of insulting others.
When Ovechkin signed his 13 year extension with the Capitals in 2008 that took him into 8 years deep into unrestricted free agency, he got almost 19% of the Capitals cap hit. That would be about $15.9M aav based on next season's cap. I'd drop that percentage somewhat as Ovechkin's deal contains 5 prime years and Matthews isn't quite Ovechkin in terms of durability, physicality and consistency. I can see how $14M aav (16.8% of the cap) for 8 years is on target with how a player like this gets paid. As a cap percentage of Matthews' previous deal (14.64%), it's $12.2M.22 days to trade this generations Ovechkin ... tick tock ... this like everything else will have a very Leafy stink to it. Why cant Leaf fans have anything nice?
But he doesn't have the necessary until July 1.Matthews is not going to be traded unless he goes to management and says I’m leaving like Tkachuk. If he says nothing, he won’t be moved. Assume he has a NMC right now.
Matthews will either re-sign or walk. There is no middle.
I think da /leafs have already told Matty they won't go higher than MAC .. but even da numbers tell any hockey guy that Matty really should not even get a raise .. he is lucky to make 11.6M per AAV with front loaded bonuses no one else even sniffs .. but he will get 12.6M as 1C's are hard to come by .. over that and it is trade time folks just on principleA much higher standard than Mack you say? I took the numbers over the last 7 yrs for both players....since Matthews started......we wont get into the fact that Mack plays with fire and has won a cup.
Regular Season
Nate.. 491gms 225g 381a 606pts
Matthews 481gms 299g 243a 542 pts
Playoffs
Nate 77gms 44g 56a 100pts
Matthews 50gms 22g 22a 44pts
I might be wrong but didnt Marleau tell him to keep the incident to himself?
AM is not the biggest problem for sure, he is a great player. No you don't.
Just because everyone else in the country is convinced that the Earth is flat doesn't mean I have to accept it as fact.
That's quite possibly the worst motivation to take a stance on any subject - "lots of others are doing/saying/feeling the same, so I should too".
The truth is that Matthews was 2nd on the team in hits among forwards, got into a fight while holding 3 hockey sticks, led in blocked shots and did almost everything he did in the playoffs in the dirty areas.
There was nothing soft about his game these playoffs.
Who was tougher to compare him to? Tkachuk? Eichel?
MT had 4 more hits in 1 extra game played compared to AM.
Eichel had barely more than half the hits Matthews had.
The same way I held firm that Kessel was not the problem on this team throughout his entire tenure here, I say the same now about this dumb take.
I agree if any of the 3 walk shanny must be firedAM is not the biggest problem for sure, he is a great player.
What is a problem is allowing him to walk for nothing in return. Now that would be more stupid than trading him.
If he leaves, Treliving, Shanny, Tanebaum (sp) all all done. Shanny was duped by Dubas, cannot allow that to happen with AM.
Everyone believes the world is flat?No you don't.

does this mean that no superstar should ever earn top dollar in the NHL?
