There are rules against reckless hits that specify what is and isn’t allowed. Show me the rule that says you can’t take a shot while the game is being played.

Deliberately shooting a puck at another player has long been considered game misconduct material. They don’t need to spell out every conceivable scenario, it’s common sense.

Your logic is flawed. There are legal hits and illegal hits in the NHL rulebook; there is no such thing as an illegal shot when the puck is in play.

Ad hominem attacks: the sign of a mental midget incapable of intelligent debate with adults. Clearly you are unworthy of my time. Goodbye!
Technically, it can be illegal if a shot is deemed unsportsmanlike. Which is what the NHL did deem in the situation and why Watson was fined. A shot can be an illegal infraction if deemed intent to injure or unsportsmanlike in nature

Yeah, but in all honesty, it was against Scott Niedermayer, which made it O.K.

Luckily it didn't affect him much

Tampa's my team, but Watson's insane slapshot deserves way more than the NHL's $2000 fine. I believe coach Cooper will deal with Watson. Bolts vs Preds won't meet again until maybe later in the playoffs.

Kind of funny how plugs like Watson, Reaves, etc. continue to play in the league when young talent like Stankoven, Bourque, Othmann, Roy, Coronato, etc. are in the AHL.

The NHL is doing something wrong when young talented hockey players play in the minors and useless, talentless, and stupid plugs continue to play 8 mins a night.

Wow, this thread got to 9 pages? I haven't read it. I don't know if any other Nashville fans bothered to chime in or not. But my impression here is that "nobody should care"? It's just impossible to guess if Watson did it on purpose or not, but in Nashville I think we feel like Watson isn't just like some evil low-class guy who would do that. He might be klutzy and incapable of hitting the broadside of a barn with his shot. But we don't really hold that against him. Plus it's kind of a bonus if he takes out Lauzon since we have better #6D guys than him? It's not really a hot topic in Nashville anyway, so kind of surprising it got this far!

Horrible post lol. Imagine it was a star player like McDavid/Mackinnon etc. getting hit instead of Lauzon, people would be going off.

Please share some links of players taking slap shots from their own half of the ice, with an opposing player directly in front of him, in the dying seconds of a game that is completely out of reach
Clips of the final seconds of games out if reach arent readily available and shared on the internet because thered be no reason to save a clip of the final 10 secpnds of blowout game but i happens. Maybe not every game but plenty. But im not gonna record 20 whole nhl game endings to see if i can find the scenario.

Happens often enough.

Here's Josh Gorges shooting at Kyle Turris.

Asked if Gorges was trying to hit him, Turris said: “I don’t think he was trying to get a shot on net. I don’t know what was going through his head. I definitely was not standing in front of the net and I don’t think he was trying to dump it in for a forecheck either.”

But that's the point, something like this quite obviously is a reason to save a clip - there are enough fans for each team for at least one to clip it and post it - but I don't remember seeing it that many times. Like sure, sometimes players give the puck a whack at the end, that's nothing, but a full-on slapshot directly at a player is rare. If you're gonna argue that it's something that happens all the time, you should record 20 whole NHL game endings and give us the evidence. I'd wager we'd see it happen 0 times at this scale.

Watson is a reckless idiot and deserved more than that fine but lol at the sad sacks relitigating their past sour grapes by turning it into an indictment of the entire team. He's just a plug we signed the past off-season.
