Now that I am over my anger and disappointment of this past playoff performance, I am wondering who they need to bring in to light a fire under this team. Namely Matthews and Marner (Tavares gets a pass due to injury and Nylander actually showed up). Muzzen alone couldn't get this team going and Tavares supposedly tried to urge the team to win. Fans have been harping on Nylander for a long time, but now the brunt of the fans ire has shifted (and maybe justifiably so). As much as I have been one to say trade Marner, I seriously doubt that will happen. But something needs to be done. Who do the Leafs bring in the offseason to get the young stars motivated? It is definitely not Jumbo Joe and a player like Mark Messier retired a long time ago.

The issue isn't bringing in player X to teach these guys how to care. The Leafs could bring in Pat Maroon next year. Everyone agrees he's the type of player who "plays the right way". But he would make no difference to this team. You rarely see a 10min a night player join a room and tell the guys playing 22min how to play properly.

Wayne Simmonds in a Flyers jersey would put himself through the boards just to get a piece of Sidney Crosby in playoff series. In Toronto he just follows the lead of the top players and floated through most of the season. Watch his games early in the season compared to the end. Night and day in terms of how he played. Why? Because you adapt to the leadership group.

The leadership group is given support by management because these guys all think three poor games in the playoffs should not be a massive concern because of the quality play over 56 games. They rely on things like "expected wins" vs the reality of getting embarrassed in back to back playoff series. They don't seem to appreciate that the effort required to gain a foot of ice in the playoffs is way harder than the same foot of ice in the regular season.

The real Attitude Adjustment should come from ownership and land on the feet of management and then tear out the rotten parts of the core and build from there.

That's the only way to make the Leafs great again.

Either they have the fire in their belly or they don't. If we need to hire washed vets making at or near league minimum to stoke the flames for our 11 million dollar players, then they're not 11 million dollar players.
I agree with this. I wouldn't mind seeing a former player like a Messier that has the old school mentality to rip them a new one as like a coach or something. When someone like that speaks to you and shows you tough love, you listen. When it comes from someone who was an all star and has won many cups it goes a lot further than from someone who was a career bottom 6er or didn't even play in the NHL. In the end these guys are getting paid millions and should have the desire to do what it takes to win the cup.

Doughty for Mitch with LA retaining. Drew would have none of the boys shit. He's done what he's needed to do in LA. I could see him wanting to take Toronto to the promise land.

He's f***ing crazy. And we need more of that. Also homies with Muzzin.

But as long as Dubas is here I don't think it matters. Our core will tell Mom someone is being mean to them

Seem to recall an interview where Doughty more or less said he has no desire to play in Toronto. Too much BS here.

Would need a sizable add considering marner despite his flaws is a top 25 player in the game

Doughty@8M + Adrian Kempe

Marner + a small piece

But I think Doughty has an NMC right? And pretty sure from his past comments he doesn't even like Toronto so not sure if he'd want to come here

This is all just fan fiction. No one is close enough to the players to know if their attitude is an issue on the team.

The kids did so much better under the direction and leadership of Lou Lamoriello and his almost military like strict rules and discipline, and under Mike Babcock for the code of conduct, despite them railing against authority and wanting more freedom.

Now there is a country club like mentality, and where GM and Coach are within their own age group and seen more as friends and allies and allowing them to do whatever they want.

The line between management and players has been blurred to the point that there are no more guardrails in place, nor a proper chain of command as to who has the authority and ability to lay down the law and provide that attitude adjustment and provide the much needed missing leadership component.

Without leadership, direction and rules there's only chaos and dysfunctionality and what appears to be a rudderless ship. IMO

In other words, Blue and White Disease, the affliction of lazy entitlement that’s often been used to explain the longest active absence from any post-season success in the NHL.

Fan fiction. No facts presented just pure speculation.
