Lol MTL is not a bad matchup. I know people have PTSD from 2021, but there is no Carey Price in net. Price is an all time great and probably the best goalie of the modern generation. Habs have had a good season but they've overachieved big time.
I agree, would be a great matchup. Would be interesting for the people who say we don't match up well against Ottawa or Montreal to list the playoffs teams in order of how well we match up against them. For me, I believe those two would be near the top of my list. Off the top of my head, other than NJ and CAL, those would probably be our easiest opponents.

When I think of all the times we've faced Boston/TB in the first round, I'm downright giddy when I think of getting OTT or MTL in the 1st round. I just pray that they don't f*** it up now, just a couple more wins ...

What's going on in the METRO?

Many of their top teams are limping, and the wildcard teams are not pushing too hard either:

Last 10

WSH 4-5-1 L1
CAR 5-5-0 L3
NJD 5-4-1 L1
NYI 3-4-3 L1
CBJ 4-5-1 W1

At the start of the year, I predicted a Rangers/Stars Cup Final.

The Rangers not being able to make the playoffs OUT OF THE METRO, despite all their teams other than Washington being through some pretty major struggles this year, is insane to me. What a mess in New York

No offence to you or anyone, but yea fan predictions are really meaningless. We don't know what's gonna happen. I am still betting on McDavid and Drai to win the cup this year, they are too good. But again, I have no idea what will happen.

For the most part, this is completely true. There are some exceptions though, for example I recommend paying close attention to any predictions made by @Evilhomer.

So the Oilers who didn't win last year and got significantly worse this year, while the Central got significantly stronger, are your pick to win the cup ? I'd be shocked if they made the WCF this year. They have no depth and the defence is still suspect.

No offense taken.

I'm just pointing out that that Rangers roster, given where they were last year, should never have missed the playoffs given how blah that division is.

There's some serious issues going on in New York right now.

If Florida loses tonight, they are out of contention for first. The most they will be able to get is 100 points. We have the ROW tiebreaker, do we not?

Yes. If Florida loses tonight in regulation the best they could achieve is 100 points and 39 regulation wins. That’s what Toronto has right now, so the next tiebreaker would be ROWs and we have far more than them.

Definitely cheering for Detroit tonight to take Florida off our minds.

Realistically Florida is out of the running for passing us. What is up in the air, is whether they finish 4th, 3rd or 2nd in the division.

With four games left, making up even three points isn't that easy.... though you can't count on anything.

If we get 5 out of 8 available remaining points then nobody can pass us, so hopefully let’s just get out there and get it done

Too many pages to look through, so I'm not sure if this has been discussed but............both Tkachuks may not be ready for the playoffs.

No Brady? Ottawa please.

Starting to shape up like its going to be the Battle of Ontario and the Battle of Florida in the Atlantic.
I know we dump on this playoff format a lot, and for good reason.

But round 1 is about to throw up:
  • The Battle of Ontario
  • The Battle of Florida
  • Avs/Stars
  • The potential President's Trophy Winners (Jets) vs The Hottest Team in the League (Blues)
  • Kings/Oilers: Round 4
We are going to be FEASTING in round 1

We just need to secure 4 pts and for Tampa to not do any better than 3-0-1 and that should be enough.

My lazy morning brain didn't want to compute the point difference between the Leafs and Tampa. :help:

So yes, 4 points probably wraps it up. Which is pretty easily attainable as long as they take these games seriously and/or the Bolts slip up.

Leafs path is no walk in the park. The two bottom feeder teams are red hot:

What I do like is if the Leafs start on Easter Monday (Rise UP baby) they are projecting to have game 7 on Saturday, which would put games 3 and 4 in the state of florida (rd 2) on May 9-11th which means I may not need to burn any holidays to go south for my favourite past time... Leafs playoff hockey in Florida. :) Hoping for TB in Rd 2.

Personally, I think Edmonton is going to be done in by Jeff Skinner. He's insanely inconsistent, and it only takes a few bad performances to put you behind the 8-ball, as we well know.

They also massively lucked out last year having their first two opponents either have bad goaltending or lose their main guy, forcing them to play the backup.

They will also start on the Rd vs LA who is very good at home. Could see them getting bounced in the first round, and I dont see them getting past Vegas in the second round.

Then its 1 more season until Connor fulfills his childhood dream and comes home.
