LEAFS GDT Atlantic Division - Race to the 1st

I’d rather play Ottawa than Florida. Tampa is probably the team we play best against but they have improved and we can hope to get them in the second round.
The weird coincidence is the Sens are the least penalized team and the Panthers are just 3 short of being the most penalized team. So PP may be non existent or huge.

Both teams employ a heavy floor check which is our kryptonite but the Panthers are way dirtier and have more high end talent imo
I appreciate that this will sound ironic given the leafs' recent history, but I think some of Ottawa's more talented players (other than Brady) will wilt under the pressure of playoff hockey. That's not something that would happen with Florida or Tampa.

They are certainly unproven. Where as Tampa or Florida have represented the east in the finals for the last 5 years. So they are about as proven as can be.
I’ll definitely take the unknown over the certainty.

I think the state of Florida's run will end this year. Neither Florida nor Tampa are getting out of the second round.

Another fun fact since we drafted Mathews the Sens have won more playoff rounds than we have. lol!

This is going right down to the last day or two. Nice to control our own fate at this point. A split with Florida would work wonders and we'll probably need a point or two out of Tampa. Next week will be a sneak peak of the PO's. The nice thing is all the teams are in the same boat pretty much so it won't be a case of getting more fatigued than the other teams.

Well I hope you are right. Both got significantly better around the deadline and are built for the playoffs.
I really want the Leafs to win the division and let them beat the hell out of each other.
I don't think Florida got better. Jones is not very good, and Marchand can't replace what they have lost in Tkachuk.

Jones is garbage but a lot of mistakes get covered up when you’re on a good team. We’ll see but I’m not overly worried about Seth Jones all of a sudden becoming a Norris candidate because he got traded to Florida. Marchand was cooked in Boston and he’s still cooked in Florida.

Jones was overpaid and overrated but he fits better as a 2-3 on a good team than a #1 on a bad team.
And if Tkachuk is out for the playoffs that’s definitely a bigger loss than anything they acquired but I think he will be back. How effective he will be is a different story

You can book your hotel room in Ottawa for games 3 and 4 now. Should be right around the day of the election.

Getting 5 out of possible 6 pts are awesome. Did mentioned they need at least 4 of 6 in this trip to stay in the hunt and they did that and more.

Wed game is the main event. If they win that one, not only will they be more comfortable but will boast them confidence for the playoffs.

I think the silence on Tkachuk is deafening. Not skating, and not a single word on when he might start skating. I wouldn't be surprised if he had surgery and Florida simply didn't disclose it.

3 of the next 4 games are against the Florida teams. That will definitely go a long way in determining who wins the division.

I want to believe you and hope you are right but over the past few playoffs. Reality seemed to be the opposite of your predictions.

Of the remaining schedules, Tampa has the easiest in terms of breaks. They play every other day until the playoffs. Gets them into a rhythm.

Florida has 3 back to backs left but their seasons end on Tuesday April 15 with the playoffs likely starting on Saturday April 19th, giving them 3 full days off to rest before the playoffs.

The Leafs have 2 back to backs and end the season playing 4 games in 6 nights, ending the season on Thursday and their opening round of the playoffs is likely their 5th game in 7 nights on the Saturday. The least rested of the 3.

Ideally for the Leafs they can win their games against Tampa/Florida and create some distance allowing them to rest their team down the stretch.

They have the most.

Yes, there’s a team with 8 while the Leafs have 16. Tampa has 12. Florida has 14. Boston had 10.
Montreal has 15
Toronto, Carolina, Rangers, and Pittsburg have 14
Buffalo, Florida, Ottawa, Washington, Anaheim, Edmonton, LA, Vegas, and San Jose have 13
Tampa, Columbus, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Chicago, Colorado, Minnesota, Utah, and Seattle have 12
Dallas and Nashville have 11
Boston. St Louus, Calgary, and Vancouver have 10
Detroit has 8
Winnipeg has 6

Three other teams have as many, and 18 others have one or two fewer. Except for Detroit and Winnipeg they are all very close.

You're cherry picking to make it look worse than it is.

So Montreal and us have the most in our division? Sounds about right.

We're gifted 4 games in 6 nights with a day off before the playoffs start. Meanwhile, Florida's season ends on Tuesday with likely 3 full nights before the playoff begins (despite us playing more games than them up to this point). Tampa has no more back to backs all season.

Ignore the fact that you were deliberately cherry picking teams to make it look worse than it is,, and when I provide accurate data, you move the posts.

Florida plays Thursday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.
Toronto plays Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Tampa plays Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Again, selective reporting to make things look worse that they are. Each team plays four games in the last week, with two of the three having back-to-backs.
