Is the trend toward picking european skaters a concious move or a case of the best player available at the pick?

Yes, this one a good question.

Is the trend toward picking European/USHL/NCAA (US born) skaters a concious move?

Kings have not draft a single WHL player since they drafted Jaret Anderson-Dolan 2nd round #41 2017. Five years, 36 picks, seven Finns, no WHL-player.

All things being equal, do they prefer all around game/attitude over skill/wild card?

I.e. Turcotte over Zegras kind of pick.

Jason Robertson exists
Yeah he is clearly the best CA born player. I was thinking more on the Matthews (AZ) or Seth Jones (TX) level. But I think it’s definitely fair to call Robertson a star. I wonder if the Kings would have taken him had he fallen to them.

I think the draft results certainly say they do. Remember there are still a lot of Lombardi guys in amateur scouting and those guys have consistently passed on pure skill guys for more well rounded guys over the past 17 years.

Dang, it has been that long......

man we are getting old

How has Turcotte been coping with a successive rash of injuries and what are his and the organization’s expectations of him in the upcoming year?
It’d be borderline a miracle if Yanetti ever got grilled for a lot of the stanky choices they’ve made. Imagine if someone just asked the f***ing elephant in the room.

“Why do the Kings struggle develop top end forwards?”

I’d love to hear that answer or hear them try To white wash the answer. Like Kempe is the most productive forward? And the Kings got him at the last pick of the draft after they won the cup a decade ago.

Justify that. For real.

And the Dub is usually considered the tougher of the junior leagues. It goes hand in hand with the lack of toughness on the roster and in the pipeline. Why the lack of picks from the W?

My question is how’s does one scouts recommendation, say for a Euro player, get the nod over another scouts recommendation for a player from a junior league like the Q? Is it a group discussion? Fall to GM’s preference?

There's two reasons I didn't ask about this topic.

1. Yannetti isn't on the development staff and I'm not gonna wastes his time or the listeners time with questions that don't involve him. I DID ask him if the scouting staff writes a prescription for recommended development strategies.

2. I believe that I know why the question isn't accurate and have layed out multiple times why I don't agree with the premise so I'm personally not inclined to follow up on that line of questioning.

unfortunately this came in after the recording was finished but this is an excellent question that I wish I had asked

We kind of danced around it by accident... but never directly asked

It’d sure be good to know where he thinks the issue comes from. The picks themselves or is it truly a development issue. Wouldn’t it be good to know exactly who’s screwing up with these forward picks? Wouldn’t it be extreme to take away any accountability from his picks failing ?

Nevertheless Jesse, you’re a breath of fresh air for the most part since most of the Kings news and journalism is mind numbing fluff pieces. Excruciatingly boring coverage.

I will once again maintain that it's option C

Well whatever you think it is whether or not I agree with it, I’d appreciate trying to get us some information and understanding as to why this problem exists and if there’s anything being done to address it. It’s not even a subjective opinion. It’s objective that there’s something very wrong. It’d be nice to get some information about it.

Thanks for all you do.

I think you should be providing specific examples of said prospects. Is anyone with a half a brain really going to make a judgement on kids who can barely buy a beer?
