I love the guy but do not get why he has gone so high recently.

He is in no way top-100 in an all-time draft.

There are clearly 3 better LWers (and dozens of better other position players).

I would rank about 5 or 6 undrafted LWers over Marchand.

Among those with an all-around two-way game, maybe 2 or 3.

The gap isn't that big though. Marchand belongs in that general range among "all-around" LWers.

Granted, I'm just an interested observer, and i've never participated in one of these ATDs before (only followed casually), but that would not have been the player I drafted at that slot. I guess he's hoping for chemistry replication with his 2OA Crosby?

I've been going back and forth between reuniting the Production Line or taking another similar centre that I didn't think would be available to me... ah, I can't resist the allure of completing the trio up front. Hogsmeade selects Sid Abel with our first pick.

Then, we need a big, sturdy partner for King Clancy, and I think there's a gap between this guy and the next best option, so we'll take Serge Savard.

Forgot he had Crosby, this is a very good point.

Yeah, on Crosby's wing Marchand's value rises. I would have taken someone else if I wanted a LWer but it would have been closer now.

Damn, great pair of picks. I almost picked Savard but I had him last year and I'm trying to mix it up.

Is this the first time the Production Line was reunited? I vaguely recall someone doing it, but I might be hallucinating. Either way, this is a crazy top line for your team.

Might be the first time in forever Abel will actually play center.

Everytime Gerard and Savard are available and I want a "generalship" defensive defenseman, I just can't choose. They are soooo similar.

I guess if you want a captain you pick Gerard, but other than that I see nothing that separates them. It's not even like Savard is a bad leader, he can easily wear an "A".

Forgot to comment on this, but Syl Apps Sr was incredible value.

I'm not saying this is my position, but there's an argument to rank him over even Sakic and Yzerman. His career is lost in the smog of the WWII era and all that but he is a legit #1 center even in a draft this size.

For some reason it seems like he is considered an "unsexy" pick in the ATD.

2way horse with speed. He had grit too. Gets an unfair rap again because of Smythe. Has got all the Harts and the Arts and the Cups. Best Toronto team ever?

Dawson City selects Duncan Keith, D

Pick 85 (the current pick) is up for trade while I figure out who I want to draft here. I won’t drag it out all day, but I am stuck between a couple names.

Good value here. I was going to have to draft him at 85 if he was still available, even though I really didn’t/don’t want to start my offense with two centers.
Thank you. Yes, didn't necessarily want first two forwards to be centers either, but he seemed to have fallen a bit and couldn't pass up.

Awesome job reuniting the Production Line! Not sure if that's been done here before. Like I said previously, it's hard to beat legitimate proven chemistry. No what if's.

On a Production Line book related note, here's one of the most hard to find items out there. Some good stuff in here.

Apps has been a Leafs great discounted often for playing his best during the world war years.

He ain't alone.

Imo he is top-100 talent but at the tail end, all things considered. He has NOT had by any means an Yzerman or Trottier career.
