Jim Neilson will dress as a 7th D and step in for Hollett where necessary - with Baun on the right side. Hollett to take offensive zone starts.

Does this mean you’re only planning to dress 11 forwards?

It's not a normal 23 man roster? I only see this: "You must draft 2 goalies, 6 defensemen, 12 forwards, a coach, and 4 extra picks." The roster has to play games tho?

The roster is 23 (I guess 24 this year with the extra round added), but just like the NHL you only get to dress 18 skaters and 2 goalies per game. I read your comment as saying Hollett and Neilson would dress for the same game, meaning 7 D, but maybe I misunderstood.

Regina Capitals select F Dolly Swift

The Montreal Star, on 4 December 1897 (page 14), published a preview of the upcoming 1898 AHAC season with blurbs about the various teams on the circuit. Unfortunately the part talking about Montreal HC is illegible, but the rest is pretty good/interesting. Here are the quotes about a few of the players already drafted in the ATD so far-

Dolly Swift: "...and the old war horse, Dolly Swift, once about the finest player in Canada, will also get out his stick and skates, and intends t play the game again"

Shirley Davidson: "Of course, as announce in the Star recently, Shirley Davidson is going to Jamaica, and the Vics will lose the services of that dashing forward. Every supporter of the Victorias will be sorry that Shirley is going away, but these are things that cannot be helped"

Mike Grant: "Captain 'Mike' Grant some time ago spoke of resigning from the captaincy, but has changed his mind since then, and will again take command"

Harvey Pulford: "Harvey Pulford is the captain of this year's Ottawa team, and he is confident that Ottawa will put a strong team on the ice"

Alf Smith: "It is said also that Alf. Smith is willing to play again with the team, but a great many of the team's supporters are opposed to it, for while Smith has in the past been one of the strongest forwards on the team, he is far from being a clean player, and is not popular for this reason. Other things are said, too, about Smith's play last season that are not at all pleasant"

While we're on the topic, I just added an estimated regular season minutes chart to my post in the Roster thread. I encourage every GM to make one (I would love if they were required, but too late for that, and I also understand some people might not have the time or resources).

For those who haven't made one before, the standard for special teams we decided on a long time ago is 7 minutes of PP and 7 minutes of PK per game. Of course everything is just an estimate and if you think your team or your opponent will be penalized more/less than normal that would be something to post about during a series discussion (or maybe make a note in your roster post).
