ATD2025 Draft Thread Part II

I'd like an offensive C who could occasionally fill in for Primeau on the 4th line when we want a different look. And a guy we could comfortably slot into the lineup in a pinch as an injury fill in. He had real life chemistry with Andreychuk when they did play together which is a bonus.

Baltimore selects Pat LaFontaine, C

Savannah selects center Darryl Sittler, the 8-time consecutive leader in Leafs scoring, never-say-quit longtime captain, NHL record holder for a 10-point regular season game and tied record holder with Lalonde and Richard with 5 playoff goals in a game. The 1976 Canada Cup hero scored the tourney-deciding goal in OT. He is renowned for winning faceoffs and fighting to protect teammates.

The Complete Handbook of Pro Hockey - 1979 said:
In a poll conducted among writers, GMs and scouts, he rated among the league's best in six categories (best playmaker, hardest worker, most valuable player, best on faceoffs, best team leader, and a player you'd pick first for your team).

I'm sorry I didn't catch that it was until noon today. If @Claude The Fraud wants Carlsson he can have him.

@jigglysquishy please hold off on picking until Claude picks or until 6pm EST
No worries guys!

Sorry for being late, there was a snow storm here on Friday and Saturday. so I was busy with the kids and shovelling.

I'll pick shortly!

Savannah selects HHOF goaltender Tiny Thompson, the 4-time 1st/2nd team all-star Stanley Cup champion 1930's star who was the first netminder to record an assist. His HOF coach said his spectacular play was only exceeded by his endurance.

Thompson helped popularize the technique of catching the puck as a method of making a save. A competent puckhandler, he was the first goaltender in the NHL to record an assist by passing the puck with his stick to a fellow player.

Baltimore will select their backup goaltender by drafting a 4x Stanley Cup champion who won with four separate clubs. The original Mr. Clutch, who proved time and time again he was a big-game player.

Hap Holmes, G

I feel like we could use some more depth on the right wing, so the Windsor Spitfires are proud to select Philadelphia legend Reggie Leach.

If I remember correctly, he was the first forward to win the Conn Smythe after being on the losing end in the Finals. An impressive playoff performer, he could see some game action if Cashman's back issues flare up to the point where he can't skate or walk (because we know not being able to walk doesn't disqualify Wayne from playing in a game).

Will PM next.

Great pick. I debated between he and Amonte for my RW4 slot before deciding on Amonte as I preferred his all-around game, speed and a grit sprinkled in. Was a better fit for a Primeau/Andreychuk line. But Leach is certainly a better pure goal scorer. Can't go wrong with the Riverton Rifle.

That makes sense. His goal scoring was one of the reasons I went with him over others, just in case he needs to replace Heatley on the third line.

And like I've said before, I wanted to make sure Messier was insulated with some offensive firepower, because I already know that I'm going to hear about his lack of offence (compared to ATD first round picks) come playoff time.

Three Rivers was able to reunite Nieuwendyk and Mullen with their last pick and will add a spare F who teamed with our 4th line LW, Don Marcotte in Boston for years, and like Nieuwendyk, was a master in the dot, possibly even more so as he came in 3rd, in a poll done by Sports Illustrated in April of 1998, ranking the best face off men, of all-time. Tough as nails,

They compiled the list with input from long time NHL observers:

1. Ted Kennedy
2. Stan Mikita
3. Derek Sanderson
4. Dave Keon
5. xxxxxxxxxx
6. Bobby Clarke
7. Guy Carbonneau
8. Milt Schmidt
9. Ron Francis
10. Bryan Trottier

Winning face-offs is especially important on special teams and Three Rivers will now be be able to deploy 3 of the best ever, 2 of whom (this guy and Clarke) will eat up plenty of minutes on the PK, and Nieuwendyk/Clarke represent advantages on the PP against whoever they'll be facing.

On the famous Bobby Orr, flying goal, it was this man who passed him the puck from the corner to bring Boston's first title home in decades.

Welcome aboard "Turk"

Derek Sanderson, C
