ATD 2020 Draft Thread V

Salt Lake selects a player that is generally regarded as one of the top blueliners in Europe during the early to mid 1960’s D, Frantisek Tikal

tikal2.jpg

An inductee of the IIHF HOF, Tikal was twice named the top defenseman at the World Championships, in 1964 and again the following year in 1965. This is especially impressive considering that his career overlapped with the Soviet defensemen who played in the ‘72 Summit Series.

He played in the CSSR top league from 1952-1968 and for the National Team from 1957-1967.

He was still available?

The Halifax Mooseheads would like to welcome, from Vancouver, British-Columbia, a true gentleman on skate, Peter McNab.

Making up picks 879 and 882, the MountainLake StreetCats (ugh, I have to change this name) select

Andrei Vasilevskiy, G

and Tiger Williams, LW

Papershoes has a long history of missing a few rounds and always has made them up later.

But SIXTEEN *16* picks?????

That's ridiculous.

For the integrity of the draft order, let's not try to make that up: just DISBAND the franchise. The players already picked by papershoes would disappear in a missing plane and presumed dead in a crash.

This means minus one team in a division per conference. That's okay. We have had ATDs before with uneven numbers of teams in divisions.

Geeze..that got dark quick, Van.

I do hope @papershoes is okay though. He’s been around these drafts a long time, hasn’t he? He’s usually a trooper. I’m sure life got in the way.

Has anyone heard from him?

Bit of a detail-oriented pick here - I have no right handed centres and Billy Taylor is one of those. Of course, that would be no good to me if he wasn't noted for being good at faceoffs, but the Hall Of Fame has my back there, mentioning that aspect of his game in the same breath as his playmaking, which is what he's best at. He led the league in assists once, and his 5 best VsX scores look good even with the wartime penalties for his '43 and '46 seasons (he missed the worst ones).
The rub is that he only has 5 relevant scoring seasons, and managed to get himself into that situation for the stupidest of possible reasons - gambling on his own games. So wear a letter he will not. Not in the ATD, not on my beer league team. But he has a job to do, and he brings a high level of talent to that role.

Swamp Devils pick Jack Evans, D

Evans peaked at 5th in Norris voting in 1961-62 after being praised for his performance in the 1961 playoffs for Chicago.

He was known as one of the biggest and toughest players of his era.

16 picks?.... imagine a newbie in the next atd picking a guy we add now to 8 rounds ago? Ugh.

AT LEAST: add all those picks in the present round as a "note".

The draft order has been pretty good. 16 sudden backpicks at once is waaaay unprecedented and distorting.
