As an aside, does anyone know if he played LD or RD? Does him playing on the wrong side matter as much as, say, a LW or RW playing on the wrong side?

Nighbor is definitely a good pick, but I wouldnt want him to be the best offensive player on my team

I want to research him even more before going in full-blown debates , but Nighbor was in the same league as Lalonde and undrafted in overall offense. He was not as good , but he wasn't that far.

That being said , this is where having the 3rd greatest offensive defenseman of all-time helps a lot.I can afford it.

Lalonde was a much better goal scorer than Nighbor. I think their overall value is similar.

And yeah, there is a good case that the defensemen Nighbor played with in real life were more active offensively than he was, do he does seem to work well with Kelly

Thankfully my gym partner cancelled so I'm here to keep things rollin.

Halifax selects Valeri Kharlamov.

Can someone pm next please, on my phone and out and about.

Bollocks... There goes the plan of my team, I must be very stupid to think I could take my all-time favorite player at 55, well done Stoneberg, he is the second-best left wing behind Bobby Hull in my opinion, a sure-fire offensive weapon.

Oh boy..really, this pick came down to two players. Both at the same position..but one of them has to win..

Ladies and gentlemen..the Seattle Metropolitans select a born leader. He was considered the Jean Beliveau of English-Canada. He was brilliant with the puck, having the ability to pass and score...he was large but definitely a gentleman.

This man's name is:

C - Syl Apps Sr.

I guess I'm building from the net out this year.

Going from a great Hab to a great Leaf, I pick a player whom I've always admired, but always knew very little about until now. After researching him just a little bit, I am incredibly excited and thrilled to select both one of the strongest, toughest, and greatest defenders to ever lace 'em up, and the official donuts and coffee sponsor for all West Island Lions games.

Tim Horton, D

Your team will have no shortage of caffeine or sugar with those new 29 ounce cups!

Nice pick though, broski. I think he was the BDA, and gives your team a solid #1 defender with underrated offensive ability.

Curious why you say that, I've only ever heard good things about his defensive game.

I can't talk about it fully without mentioning undrafteds, but he seems to be one of those guys who started as a rushing defensman and developed his defensive game in the second half of his career.

In the first half of his career, he woukd be among the league leaders in points, but not an all star. There were some posts to this effect during the HOH defensemen project.

He's still great defensively here - just not as great as canon holds. And his offense is better than generally thought

There's a case for hin as 2nd best LW of all time, but to make such a case, you'd have to believe that Valeri did things not captures by the stats.

My brief reading sorta painted him as a "Robinson-lite". Quite good at all aspects of the game, and tough as nails.

He is fourth for me after Hull, Lindsay and another guy yet to be taken.

I love Valeri and I'll be glad to shed any light with a new book I just purchased..however, quotes have never been the issue. Statistics..seem to be the issue holding him back from going any higher on that list.

As I said when I owned him in the past, if you go by the quotes, he is on par with Maurice Richard, but the statistics just don't support that.

The quotes just talk about how dazzling and great offensively he was. But the stats just aren't that impressive. Though in the early Russian system where defensemen weren't as involved offensively, Kharkamov was probably the guy relied on to lug the puck up ice

I think when it comes to finesse offense, he's definitely #2, but all things considered he's behind Lindsay because he is so frail, and obviously Lindsay's all-around play is probably more valuable than the explosive offense provided by Valeri.

I know who you are thinking of, and albeit being in the same tier, I think that a case can be made that Kharlamov is better than him as well.
