It's too bad that the lack of scoring has overshadowed the fact the Leafs have given up 7 goals in 4 games.

Freddie used to struggle in Oct. and the threads used to be filled with rants about our false offense because everyone wad playing loose, and they were awful defensively and in net.

I would much better take this outcome of playing well, dominating possession, dominating shots, dominating xgf, dominating corsi and going 2-1-1 then previous years of winning 6-5 on high shooting percentages while we look like a lottery team on defence.

It is nice this team has to work to get results and build work ethic.

Exactly, not to mention Marner, Matthews and Tavares will put up points, this game could easily have been 4-1.

I don’t think Leaf fans has ever been this divided on a team.

It's not that different than any other time since I've been here.

There are always opposing opinions on all things Leaf

Burke
Kessel trade
Kadri / Frattin
Kadri / Bozak
Reimer / Bernier
Wilson
Carlye
Phaneuf
and on and on

I don’t get why that’s an LoL.

it’s not crazy that they finish behind Tampa, Florida and Boston. Now your in a wild card spot fighting with some good teams from the Metropolitan.

The poster said he doesn't see us making the playoffs. Considering we're about 15-1 betting favourites to make it, I think LOL is more than appropriate.

The score and stats(FOW and SOG) does not tell story of that game. Rangers could have easily been ahead 4-0 at the first buzzer, a couple of posts and fluky plays kept the puck out.

The team has been generally garbage every game this year. they look disorganized .. you'd think a vet team like ours would be able to carry over systems year over year. I get that it takes 3 to 4 weeks to establish systems but the guys who were on other teams last year have been generally the best players. Bunting, Sandin, Kampf all better than Tavares, Marner, Holl.

Lilly in one game has as many points as Marner after 4 games... WTF is that? I was not part of the lynch mob that was following Marner last summer but dang this guy has been horrid this year. Tavares useless absolutely horrible. Play hockey forget the noise.
He can try to forget but it's hard to ignore the constant ringing in his ears

He was on pace for over 30 goals last year.

Playoffs, preseason,, and so far 4 games this season he certainly is snakebit.

The narrative that Nylander is a better goalscorer(he is, but not as much as people think) is overblown. Marner has 2 less goals in less games played.

Nylander has a better shot and I believe he will pull away, but recency bias aside, Marner has scored at a pretty good clip for his career

Flip usage and I think it becomes much more obvious. Nylander was pacing near 40 when playing with Matthews and getting adequate minutes. Last year Keefe cut his minutes and put him with a meh JT and we saw his numbers drop. I think at this point Nylander is a much more capable goal scorer and is a threat for 40 with optimal deployment.

You're right about Marner though. Playoffs aside (which is a bit concerning) he's a fine goal scorer. Honestly Mitch doesn't need to be a 40 goal scorer. If he can just score like he does in the regular season in the playoffs no one should be mad.

going through this thread you can pinpoint all the negative people, especially after the leafs played a pretty darn game. The leafs dominated in all games except for a back to back situation against a team who had not played a game yet.

It looks like the leafs defense and goaltending in continuing the amazing work from last year posting great numbers.
Leafs are 2-1-1 which like 70% of their offense firing blanks. There isnt much to complain about this early in the season

Recency bias wins out with most I suppose.

You are correct about the past two playoffs being concerning. I wouldn't care if he was PPG with only assists though in the playoffs.

Nylander looks different this year. His wrist shot looks to have more zip and he quite often is the best player on the team

bad things happened in the mlse bunker...

They gave 15-1 odds? That doesn’t sound right.

I looked it up a few days ago and that's what it was. Lines vary a bit from site to site but in any case, they're massive favourites to make the playoffs and the fact that a Leaf fan doesn't expect them to make it is a little bit sad.

Some so called fans more resemble a leafs death cult. They wont be happy until they show how superior they are with their doom and gloom prophesies. I believe there are a number of posters here that are actually wishing for the Leafs to lose.

15-1 doesn’t seem massive. Bet $10 to win $150?
What is Tampa for example?

15 to 1 is 15 to 1. If you don't agree with the word massive, feel free to pick your own adjective.

If you're betting on them making the playoffs, it's the other way around - bet $150 to win $10.

I only looked at the Leafs odds so I don't know about Tampa. I imagine their chances of making the playoffs would be listed as being a bit better then ours.
