MLS has to be hands down the most incompetent league in the entire world.
Went to the scheduled Charlotte FC - Columbus Crew match in Charlotte on Saturday.
10 minutes before kickoff - weather delay. Anyone who had any access to a weather app could see that Charlotte was going to be getting hit with storms until 3 AM. Baseball - come back tomorrow. NASCAR - come back tomorrow. If MLS had any concept of intelligence or could read Doppler radar, that's what they should have done. Come back tomorrow - 1 PM.
Bank of America Stadium wasn't seeing any lightning, but the idiotic weather rule is if lightning is within 8 miles...how that can be accurately measured is beyond me, but it is what it is.
MLS just delays and delays and delays. By 8:15, we're getting a deluge, but there looks to be a window around 9:30 of about 45 minutes.
We are allowed into the seats at 9:40. Of course there's an extended second warmup and pre-game nonsense. Kickoff finally at 10:18 PM (originally a 7:08 kick). There's lightning, but they play 16:42 before another delay. If they could have done this, they could have played the first half, and then used the window to play the second, but no, the rules only seemed to apply haphazardly. Now, the stadium has burned through the concessions and players have gotten in a short run, tomorrow is no longer an option.
This time, there's absolutely no window. Nobody at the stadium knows anything. I'm only sticking around to find out what happens to the tickets. All the concession stands are shut down. Employees are going home, staff can't give anyone any information about anything. I was lucky. I spent a few extra bucks and had club level access. We were at least air conditioned and had food available.
By 11:45, MLS finally announces the game is postponed.
I get an email from Charlotte FC telling me my tickets are good for the makeup.
The league cannot find a makeup date because of too many conflicts. and the fact the idiotic league didn't schedule in possible make up days, even though half the league is in cities where summer storms are normal.
Obviously, they kept everyone waiting around while they knew the game couldn't be played, BUT they also knew that rescheduling the game is going to be a logistical nightmare.
As a soccer fan, I want this league to be successful, but when it does asinine things like this, it alienates people who want to like it, but can't because of the abject stupidity of it.
