De Gea for 29m pounds ~40m euros AND Navas. Not bad

Not a bad haul all things considered. Navas is a solid back up. Going with Romero as the #1 makes me a bit nervous though.

The rumored $50 million Euros plus bonuses that could make the price go up to potentially $80 million for Martial is absolutely crazy. Way too much for a 19 year old striker, unless we're talking about the second coming of Messi. Come on.

Van Gaal has gone mad. Rumors that Rojo and Wilson leaving on loan now.

There is a full scale mutiny going on. Time to fire him and hire Klopp.

Rojo isn't leaving and Wilson isn't going to get much playing time with the players that are on the roster plus the addition of Martial.

This is horrible. I'm all for an identity change but VanGaal must be raving if all these guys can't stand him.

Why on earth would Rojo be loaned out?

Blind is a horrible center back. He's going to be eaten alive in the CL and the Arsenal's, City's, and Chelsea's of the league in the BPL if he plays there.

Obviously we'll have to wait and see against the bigger comp, and I didn't watch the Swansea game, but Blind has been very good at CB so far.

It's going to get done, taken from the Soccer board transfers thread...

di Marzio:

confirmed: documents for @D_DeGea were sent on time. Deal done for @realmadrid with Keylor Navas going to @ManUtd. Medicals tomorrow

It almost seems like Real messed this up on purpose in order to get De Gea on a free transfer next year instead? Is that even allowed? Not sure how all of this works haha.

What a completely deserved beatdown we got today. I am tired of the slow and amateurish defense we constantly showcase and the lack of any creativity year after year after year. The moment we play a good team they make us their *****.

The buck stops at the manager's door.

Klinsmann surely isn't perfect, but I think the main problem is the lack of top quality players. There's not a single world class player and Fabian Johnson is the only player who will get to play in the UEFA Champions League. I think the results at the last World Cup were pretty good (getting out of that group and taking a highly talented Belgian team to extra time) considering that.

There are some great talents with high potential for the future (Zelalem, Pulisic), but right now the talent level of the senior team simply is second rate at best.

This is true, but its a very simplified version that only covers the most basic of problems. To say we don't have the players to be the best team in the world is very basic and obvious, but fans of the US National Team know that, and we don't even feel the need to acknowledge that very obvious problem.

Klinsmann has failed to integrate enough players from MLS. He has failed to pick the best players for important games. He has had rifts with his players. He has not coached well during the games, often seeming naive to the tactical problems on the field. He has failed to get better results than his predecessors while making a lot more than them, and he always passes off the blame to someone else.

He's not a good manager. He wasn't for Germany or Bayern, and he's not good now for the US National Team.

But what exactly are the expectations then? Considering the quality of the players, a 1-4 loss against Brazil isn't unexpected and making it out of the WC group over Portugal and Ghana was a good result. Now losing against Jamaica obviously was a bad result and Klinsmann has to shoulder some blame, but other than that I don't think he has underachieved.

Klinsmann is no top manager, but he was definitely a success as German NT coach and I think his treatment at Bayern wasn't entirely fair. Maybe he should've done better, but then again Bayern didn't buy any players for him. The biggest transfers that year were Borowski on a free and Oddo and Donovan on a loan. Compare that with van Gaal next year who not only got Gomez for 30M but also Robben after an average start to the season. Klinsmann simply never worked with Hoeneß, but that was obvious way before he even started.

Again, I don't think Klinsmann is a top coach, but I don't think that results would be vastly different even under a top top manager for the US.

I'm not sure how closely you follow the team, but a lot of the fans weren't been happy with the results after the WC extending all the way to early June and the players that Klinsmann had been using. Once we got a few wins in early June against Netherlands and Germany, most of the fans weren't as upset anymore, but those good results weren't important once we played terribly in the Gold Cup.

The Jamaica loss was really bad, but it wasn't just that result. The team didn't play well the whole tournament with many questions about player selection and tactics surrounding the coach, and we were actually lucky to get to the semi-finals of the GC. After that tournament, Klinsmann didn't want to take blame. He chose to blame it on bad luck and the referees, which didn't play as much of a part as he was saying.

The way you are analyzing the US National Team is from an outsiders perspective, and I mean that with respect. I wouldn't be able to analyze the German National Team from anything other than an outsiders perspective. Fan perception of Klinsmann has shifted in a big way recently. The fans are not happy with the job he is doing.

1) the Jamaica loss was only bad because fair weather fans underestimated that team. Jamaica had just come off another tournament and been playing against some really good competition. And they even played well against that competition. They were not only a good opponent but also better prepared mentally for the GC.
2) the selection of players is what Klinssman has to deal with. Donovan was a cancer in the locker room. Fans almost revolted when he was dropped. There is not 1 superstar that the U.S. has produced. The closest thing has been Tim Howard. Jurgen has to push the right buttons with what he has. He has the team playing in a much more conducive style for success than they have ever played in the past. Compare him to Bradley and its a no brainer. The team is much more creative. Provided the comeback attempt with Jamaica consisted of 15 min worth of Hail Mary attempts... Jurgen is doing a good f'ing job otherwise with what he has to work with.

We shouldn't be losing to anyone besides Mexico from CONCACAF. Losing to Mexico isn't really acceptable either, but at least they are really good and its losing to a team that is pretty even to us. Everyone else just isn't, regardless of whether Jamaica has improved or not.

Your opinion of Klinsmann is in the minority right now. The fan perception really shifted a lot after the Gold Cup. I think probably about 30% of the fans want him gone right now, another 60% want him gone if we lose to Mexico and the other 10% want to keep him, regardless of what has happened recently and what might happen against Mexico.

This is ridiculously narrow minded. As I said Jamaica was better prepared for that game and deserved to win. I think that team took Argentina to the wire. With Guzan in net and several other regular starters not playing, that game was much more of a toss up than people realize.

And I don't allow public perception to form my opinions. I am sick and tired of watching the ball go up the wings for a flimsy cross. Jurgen is changing the culture here. In Germany, they started nationalizing how they want soccer to be played from an early age. In the US, there is no such standard. That's why you see the cross it into the box strategy here. Not as talented and creative as in more developed soccer countries.

I personally love what Jurgen has been doing and could give 0 ****s about how poorly or well the team does in some random ass cup 3 years away from the next meaningful tournament this team can play in. I want to see a World Cup. If Jurgen can find just 1-2 players he can build around in that time period, I'll be ecstatic.
