What does facing LA mean? LA may not even make the playoffs. Are you really implying that LA is definitely going to beat Minnesota if they meet?

LA just got back their starting goalie who has been out the entire year. They then acquired the now best back up in the league. I would never say anyone is going to beat another team, but LA has a good chance at it and cannot be an ideal or wanted first round match up for anyone.

Minny is getting bounced if they meet LA in the first round. The trade for Hanzel will look that much worse if it is a first round exit.

Good Trade for the Wild. They need to go all in considering Suter and Parise are in their prime and it is very likely, their contracts are going to hurt Minnesota in the next few years.

Unfortunate that the Wild were able to upgrade for the playoffs. Still do not scare me as a Hawks fan over a 7 game series though, Hanzal is mediocre. Hopefully they get bounced in the first round and the 1st rounder becomes a gem!

That doesn't make sense. It's still too much. Doesn't mean it won't pay off but deadline moves rarely do. Unless you are getting a guy like Richards or carter, trading from strength for a weakness.

So your opinion is objective fact and the other person's is not? Who says it's too much to give up and who doesn't? One of Minnesota's strengths IS the prospect pool. They effectively traded from the future additions to the prospect pool to fix a few weaknesses.

There has been a change in the dictionary for the word: overpayment

A synonym has been added: hanzal

"Geezz you really hanzaled for this car"

Obviously, no. But somethings can be agreed upon and that is as close as you can to fact. This thread is evidence that supports my opinion. It wouldn't be my opinion that a team got ripped if they trade for Streit with a 1st and 2nd and conditional 2nd. That would be fact.

There are these objective realities called time value of an asset and marginal benefit that just completely destroy you opinion.

Not just my opinion. Seems to be everyone else saying it's too much and minny fans trying to say na uh it's a good deal. The flyers have a ton of d prospects. Just because they do it does not mean a trade is WON because they have them and they traded them.

Reading though the rest of this page illustrates my point.

Pick #20-30 in 17 draft doesn't really hold THAT much value. I think it's a good trade for both teams.

Not a good trade, but not a bad one. A late first round pick is being grossly overvalued by people who are just reading it as "a first round pick". A team currently the favorite to win their division trading their first means trading a less than 1/3 chance of getting a top 9 F or top 6 D.

Sounds like a typical HF Boards response where prospects and picks are assets that should be hoarded at all costs.

In other years that first would have been a lot... this year? Not so much. It was more important for the Wild to get this deal done without costing one of their prime prospects. They did just that.

The price looks high, but I think everyone would say they would be willing to do the same in Fletcher's position.

You don't face an opportunity like the Wild have here without going for it.
