Didn't something similar happen a few years ago with Ottawa? They weren't aware a player on their roster had a No Trade List and traded him to a team on that list?

Ottawa traded Dadonov to Vegas and failed to properly inform Vegas.

Vegas not know he had a M-NTC tried to trade him to a team on it.

A team in need of defense and goaltending for years and years, adds nothing but old, soft, expensive wingers, and the fan base/media cheers and jeers how they won the offseason and have the most stacked fwd group in history.

The story was at the time, player hadn’t submitted updated list in time. (Turned out that wasn’t true)

it just doesn't work that way, players dont wanna sign if they dont have to and question if they will have to move, they sign and get these NTC for their families.

blame the GMs, they are the ones that offer them and honestly I dont blame them, being a contender is great and all but people want their families taken care of more. and there's also limited available players in FA so offer NTC or high chance you lose that player

It should for marginal players. For what they provide, there are players that could have been had without the strings.

Giving out NMCs is just a way to give your market a leg up on signing the players you want. Albright giving all of Skinner, Henrique and Arvidsson NMCs doesn’t seem like the smartest plan. A couple of these guys were said to have taken a 500k discount in Edmonton, we now know why.

Yes it was a Russian player I think. They traded him and didn’t notify him or ask him to waive. Trade got cancelled. I think it was a trade with Anaheim I think

No because the Oilers only have 4 forwards without trade clauses and 2 of them were signed by other teams. All of them make 1m per year.

All because the league didn’t have a central DB for contracts, where teams could check. League wasn’t able to verify players NTC’s.

Reason for league not having a central DB, they said was because players don’t want their NTC teams being leaked. Idiotic league doesn’t keep track of them.

In ottawas case they disputed the ntc because the player may or may not have submitted the list in time.

In either case no one “forgot” the clauses existed.

Nice. While I do understand why they've been handing out NMC's like candy, it tightens the possibilities what they can do at the deadline. Not thrilled at all with the orgs business.
That being said, Henrique isn't a problem, he'll be important in the playoffs. Arvidsson on the other hand, I have my doubts..

Because previously, they could have moved them as cap dumps to take on larger contracts, now they can't.

Henrique is also not a UFA, they both have 2 years, and the Oilers are locked in to paying them a combined 7m for the next 2 seasons, which could have been used to upgrade in net or on D.

Skinner is the UFA at 3M, but he also has a full NMC.

They have nobody else to move to clear cap space, the entire forward group has NMCs and they should be looking to add a top 4 D and a goalie.

The league doesn’t get informed of any players contracts NTC/NMC lists. There is no central DB on NTC’s. Therein lies the whole problem. Players didn’t want their list to get leaked, so league has no knowledge,
Lebrun did a radio hit and discussed it I remember, and said because of this they might look into keeping track of the lists, but it never happened.
Dumb the league does not get informed.
