Around the NHL

The Jets are pretty f***ing good
Now 14-1- just the best start in NHL history, that's all. It is really incredible- I mean, they have a good roster but nothing anywhere close to this.

They are at a point now where all they have to do is play .500 the rest of the year and they will still be close to a 100 point team

We are barely one month into the season and we are SEVENTEEN points behind them. As I mentioned in a previous post, we have virtually no shot at catching them so even if we turn things around the best we can possibly hope for is probably 4th in the division.

Jets are 1st in GF/GP, 1st in GA/GP, 1st in PP, but their PK is ranked a rather pedestrian 13th. They also have the 3rd least minor penalties called on them so a lackluster PK doesnt hurt them that much. Averaging 6:24 penalty mins a game compared to our 10:48.

It's interesting, Arniel hasn't been a head coach in over a decade, but he seems to be exactly the right fit for that Jets team, whatever it is they are doing there. Messing up everybody's pre-season predictions is what they're also doing. And Hynes too.

On waivers today.

Watching the flyers game. For Veterans Day, they chose to honor a military service dog that served in Afghanistan as a bomb dog. The dog even performed the ceremonial puck drop, he picked it up off the carpet and dropped it next to the player’s stick. One of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time.

Had something similar at a minor league game where a guide dog in training dropped the puck for a game.

Watching the Pens/Wings game on TNT. There are empty seats in the arena. Oh how the mighty have fallen…
The only tiny scrap of schadenfreude i have in hockey right now is that the Wings are heading toward Buffalo level futility, and hopefull the Pens will follow.

Im pretty sure I'd stop caring if the Preds were that bad for that long. I certainly did with the Reds

I guess this thread got a little buried by the Former Preds thread, since the guys WE sent "around the league" have been our focus.

As for Trouba on waivers... hm... seems like a Trotz/Bruno kind of guy. Not sure if there is a way to finagle our IR with the Cap hit, though. Not at first glance, anyway. But assuming he clears, they might be willing to take him with whatever retention is needed? Cap dump + retention = Trouba to fix our RD? He'd immediately become the Lauzon of our right side? :help:

I would take Trouba if Schenn was going back the other way. I've said before but i think he's the perfect partner for Josi

Josi-Trouba
Skjei-Carrier
Wilsby-Blankenburg

I'd do Trouba for Schenn one of one. Outside of that, I don't think so.
Outside of trying to real-time the accrued Cap hits from departed players and IR and everything, and assuming Johansen doesn't win his case, the default roster would then be at $86.95M... i.e. it's probably not completely un-doable...
