I think Calgary is going fire their headcoach using the tweets as a reason and then bring in their AHL coach who is 11-3-1-2

Seems like the biggest layup in the world to fire a lame duck coach who is leading his team to an exceptionally slow start.

I mean, if the accusations are true he absolutely deserves to be fired, but I can't help but think we'd see a different end result if the Flames were winning.

There is something rotten in Calgary. That core keeps rejecting players that are brought in like Hamilton and Neal.

Yeah Neal is pretty bad and Hamilton sounds a bit strange but if your core keeps treating new players poorly the problem is the core.

I don't think he's gloating, he's likely hoping as much as everyone that the Sharks lose and net us a lottery pick but realistically a lot of people here were calling that the Sharks were actually bad and mentionned that they thought that they would actually finish in the bottom of the league.

Realistically when you look at that roster it's hard to really believe that they'd finish at the bottom and they play with a very similar roster to what they had last season as well.

When you have Couture, Kane, Meier, Labanc, Hertl in your top 6 and your top 4 includes Karlson, Burns and Vlasic you should be at least a middle pack team and that's with below average goaltending.

I guess I was expecting more of a: “Damn, looks like you might be wrong about SJ, though that sucks for us!”

Instead of; I’m right you’re wrong, keep making your excuses as to why you think the team we want to suck could still suck.

Just seems like a contradiction for him is all.

Agree on the timing assuming you are referring to Babcockisms. More to come I am sure
NHL national media was furious when Gerard Gallant had to take a taxi home after being fired, yet, they all kept this Babcock mental/verbal abuse stuff silent. People knew, i just wish they would stop pretending they didn't. Its embarrassing.

The organization knew for sure . Others that were closely involved as well. He's getting dragged through the mud.

I wonder what that is going to do for coaching contracts in the future. Babcock was the new gold standard for both cost and length. Now it blew up in the Leafs' face. I'll bet the other coaches out there hoping to break past the $2 mil barrier aren't happy right now.

After the fact though. The media needs to be calling these things out as they happen, instead of protecting Babs. Why protect him?

Same reason Garrioch doesn't say boo about the Sens dressing room or Melynk's true financial struggles. The team will cut of access and there goes your sports writing career.

Hard to know .. why would Commodore only rev it up vs Babcock after he was fired? Seems like he had something to say for a while.

Then again Marleau , Tavares and apparently Reilly respect him.
The Modano and Spezza stories really make him sound like a prick.

You haven't been following Commodore close enough (lucky you) if you think he's only "revved it up" vs Babcock now.

I mean, it's probably easier to do it now that the Marner story came out, but he's been consistently (for better or worse) the guy that would shred Babs at any and every opportunity.

Thanks for this. I really wasn't sure about that. You are correct I do not follow Commodore.

"Hockey culture" is such a weird thing.

One of the downsides of being more of a niche sport on the planet that caters to certain income levels to play. As we've seen over the past few weeks, and incidents in the past....that's a lot of shit right under the surface. And no wonder why HC, and CBC & Sportsnet have been falling over themselves for the past few years trying to do the "hometown hockey" and cliche routine so much. It was only a matter of time before light was shed into some of the darkest corners of the culture of this game.

It's a real shame...hockey is the most amazing sport in the world. There is nothing better than skating on the ice...feeling the crisp cold air on your face, the sound of your blades n the ice, ripping a heavy shot on net...you can't get that in any other sport. Too bad some folks out there twisted such a beautiful game.

It's also a business that expects results and fires people with regularity.

Keenan, Bowman, Sather, these guys were tyrants and success just ratified their tactics.
