Hopefully Canucks bow out early and changes are made. Would love to snag Kesler or the Sedins.

no thanks.... i wouldnt want to deal with those heartless soft players.. id love Kesler on NYR though.. would deal Del Zotto to snag him.... i dont want a player that wont even defense himself. what a wuss :help:

Drafting Toews and Kane has really given Chicago the spark they needed. Winning the Cup in 2010 and the big favorites this year... Makes me jealous

This is what happens when you have a bad team to go through a legit rebuilding phase rather than constantly adding free agents just to finish a few points out of the playoffs and never land a top 5 draft pick. :shakehead

What's to shake your head about?

New Yorkers would never tolerate a rebuild. Nor are we in a position where we need to or should, rebuild.

I don't care...do you have any idea how talented those two are? Would change the entire dynamic of the team. A top line with the Sedins and Nash...

Don't bother, the only players he likes are players who fight. He'd rather John Scott than one of the Sedin brothers.

I wasn't talking about this season. The Rangers needed to rebuild in the late 90s/early 2000s. They didn't. They should have rebuilt after the 2004 season ended and never did then, either. The Rangers missed out on drafting offensive talents on the same level as Kane and Toews during their long playoff drought because Sather never committed to a full blown rebuild.

Still, while they might have needed one, New Yorkers won't tolerate it. We want to contend every year and anything less than that is unacceptable.

While I'm lucky enough to not have had to go through those years (I'm 18), I'm very happy with where the team is at now and our current roster. A rebuild would leave us with a completely different team today.

If we rebuild, do we get Hank? Too many questions to ask. Sather overpaid for free agents, no doubt about it, but rebuilding the New York Rangers is not an option. The part where he went wrong was the overpayment for every guy he signed.

id rather have guys like Kesler, Vinny L or St.Louis than the Sedins.... the Sedins are too soft.... if you dont defend yourself when you get hit, you are pathetic

lol.

We handled 7 years straight of missing the playoffs while continually overpaying free agents. We saw the Knicks rebuild when they drafted Gallo and Co. New York can handle a rebuild.

The Canucks have proven over the last few seasons why the old adage "no guts, no glory" exists.
For years, they have played a mostly prissy finesse game, proud of their talent, and that is that.

Edit: they gave it their all, expecting the Cup. All they got was the Presidents Cup. Now they are receding into the background. Chicago Blackhawks? They understand what makes a team.

No **** it's possible. Doesn't mean we approve of it. Games will always sell out in New York. Do you think Maple Leafs fans tolerated their rebuild? Sure they sold out games, it's Toronto. But they called for Burke's head every season, despite being in a rebuild where missing the playoffs is expected.

If we could manage to get the Sedins and put them in a second line role behind Nash/Stepan...hell yeah, go for it.

That'd be nearly impossible to do, though.

I think Kesler is a bit less of a fantasy. Staal for Kesler.

Of course Leafs fans tolerated the rebuild, you think they didn't?

They've been dying for one after Sundin left in 2008. That embarked the start of the 5 year rebuild. They too, were like the Rangers who had declining vets on large contracts. It took years to let go of the deadweight and now they're finally getting rewarded for being patient.

Rangers fans wanted rebuild after Leetch left, but Jaromir Jagr and Henrik Lundqvist had different ideas. Of course they can handle it.

So why do you call for the General Manager's head year after year when it's expected to miss the playoffs during a rebuild?

Yeah, not sure why the Nucks have interest in Staal when they are stacked at LHD. (Hamhuis, Edler, Garrison) Maybe Girardi and Kreider.

I don't know, I was spitballing.

I think Staal is a LOT more valuable than Girardi. But I'd do something like Girardi+Miller/Kreider for Kesler is a HEARTBEAT. Right handed shooter that is elite defensively and physically.

They really only called for his head mostly in his final year, but it wasn't as bad as them calling out for John Ferguson Jr's head after missing the playoffs. That city can get real nasty when the Leafs underperform.

Selling a rebuild as 'hope for the future' has worked in New York pro sports before.

I do it too. Only question is, who replaces Girardi?

That's fair.

Guys like Girardi are a premium in the NHL, so yeah he probably has a ton of value league wide based on reputation. But that trade puts a major hole on the top pairing.

Kesler would be the Canuck to go for. He would fit this team's psyche to a 'T'. Love watching that guy play, it's always total effort. The only thing that concerns me is his health. Whether due to simply bad luck, the results of playing style, or something else, his downtime due to injury is something to think about.

Agreed, he is a very fragile player.

But with high risk, comes high reward. If you manage to get Kesler with the Rangers, the team now has effectively 2 shutdown centers that can score. Our answer to try to contain Malkin/Crobsy.

My heart, and my head, agree with you.
