they’re not really, Panarin is definitively better

He's older, had less contractual control and the league perception isn't exactly amazing with that player. Panarin is very much seen as an 82 game player (and it's accurate.)

Plus Brady gave the Sens at least TWO options in terms of destinations (Minnesota and Florida) Panarin keyed in on one.

He was willing to sign a very team friendly 2 year extension as part of the deal so I don’t really buy the age or contractual control aspect. The league perception aspect is definitely legit but that doesn’t absolve Drury for getting basically nothing for an insanely valuable player. He just really sucks badly at this.

He took almost no pay cut on his deal and isn't the player he was when he signed his NYR deal. I guess the term is team friendly but the $ is likely to be an overpay.

The contractual control does matter though. Florida is going to get Brady at a below market value (if he went to market right now as a UFA - Facts even though Im not even a huge fan of the player) for at least 2 more seasons, not 3 months (I forget if there was salary retained in this deal.)

Theres also the part where Panarin gave the NYR ONE option. We know Minnesota was on Brady's short list along with Florida.

We can't ignore age either. Brady is 26 (turning 27) - Panarin was 34.

Idk. I don’t think we’ll ever agree because 11 million seems beyond fair to me, and I dont love the guy either

Brady has his issues but Florida is going to going to be a nightmare to play against if they stay healthy.

You are forgetting how good Luostarinen-Lundell-Marchand were together.
The lines will be:
Verhaeghe-Barkov-Reinhart
Tkachuk-Bennett-Tkachuk
Luostarinen-Lundell-Marchand
Boqvist/UFA-Erod-Jadjovich

"Healthy" is going to be the issue. The team got murdered with injuries last season. There was a point in the season where their entire top 6 was out. What's going to be interesting is who they'll get to be a goaltender but with Bob coming off the books, they'll have plenty of cap to work with. Don't know if they plan on resigning Bob at a cheaper AAV. There isn't a lot of quality out there on the UFA market.

That’s what people said when they traded 6 years of firsts and that was before 3 straight cup finals
Well this is the time to do it, and they are spending it on a long term top 6 piece. The best news is that Florida already has their core guys. They don’t need Brady to be the 1A or 1B.

It’s way better than paying all that capital for Jeannette.

They will be a great story next year in the league. It will force a new challenger to emerge. Also destined for a Size vs. Smurfs matchup with the Canes.

Yeah I realized that after the fact but you are correct. Regardless, Florida is likely going to be the team to beat again.

Nary a fkn rumour our way - Drury nowhere to be seen from or heard from… Dolan is knee-deep in ticker, tape and Craig Carton appearances ….
You’ll get Kevin Rooney on a PTO and like it.
Craig is drinking from a milk carton and caring about other sports.

This is the kind of core the Rangers need.
That's the core every team needs.
There's no way i can see a Rangers front office ever being aggressive enough to get it, but I'm also not sure the fans could handle it at the time either.
2 playoff appearances in 15 years for the chance to draft Barkov? Trading your fromer #3oa coming of 115pts? Giving up a 1st and roster player for a guy who had scored 40pts once? Even giving up 3 x 1sts today...
We'd have fans losing their shit after just one of those things happened, and then wanting the whole place burnt to the ground after losing a Cup final

Health and miles/age.

Gavrikov to LA is a rumor thats floating out there
Rumors/speculation around Gav, Tro, Schneider and Berard at least. The issue I guess is that there isn't much info to go off (because Drury don't leak), the names aren't really 'sexy' (and the return likely won't be either), and some of them have been floating around for months (Trocheck)
