Around the NHL - The 2025 NHL Playoffs Thread

Damn the battle of Ontario is really heating up

Hearing the fire was caused by some smart, sexy temp who left his cheese pita on "oven" instead of timing it for the toaster thing.

trying to find a team to root for, it's tough. Definitely not the Leafs or Knights. If I root for the Sens, is that wrong?
Winnipeg.

Long suffering fans. Lost their franchise but didn't lose faith and were resurrected (Easter theme).

Would like to see them win their 1st Cup.

It's funny isn't it that so many do so well elsewhere.........

Well, not actually funny.

Seems like that scouting staff that Terry dismantled (cost certainty) actually used to do a pretty good job.........

I wouldn't call what some of those guys are doing "doing well". Of those, three are guys I would shoot into the sun before putting them back on the ice with the Sabres, though Bogosian's rocket would probably miss it. MJ and Vic are just meh. One of those six grew up in different environment - that being McNabb - who is precisely the type of player they have not had on the blueline in seemingly forever: big, kills plays, plays solid defense, gets the puck to safety. One of the six is another type of player they have not had since he departed in Foligno. The demarcation from having toughness seemed to coincide with Pegs being embarrassed about the Scott/Ott teams and they just can't compete because they lack one of the most important dimensions in their division---being assertively physical.

Honest, eff the Sens, dirtiest bunch of babies I've seen on ice this year. How many crosschecks to the face can you throw before Perros starts calling you? There's no love for the leafs here. I'd love to see them collapse and say goodbye to Marner and a few others (maybe they blow it up?), but if I were a leaf, I'd be headhunting all game 2.

Not really. One can dislike them, but dislike their opponents even more. The only time you need to turn in your Sabres fandom card is if you actively pull for the Leafs.

The only instance it’s acceptable to want a Leafs win (Cup win) is for an elder family member. Because you know they won’t be a gloating POS.
idk, some of us older fans were able to root for both teams at least into the mid 90s - what, like they were gonna meet in the Cup finals?

Big soft spot for those Wendel Clark squads from '85-'93, not to mention the Sittler/Lanny/Turnbull run in childhood. Couple that with the fact that I cannot get by my visceral hatred of the Senators for their early 2000s teams (Chris Neil), that's the only Canuck squad I can't get behind. Go Leafs Go.

Also this franchise / Uncle Terry needs as much embarrassment as possible - so the Leafs winning the Cup would be just fine by me.

Steve Y going to be out?

Detroit fans claim he 100% will not be fired this year. He has done a very sub par job, as documented by my endless discussions with Wings fans on the main board where I point out their 2019-2021 drafts look very close to our 2014-2018 drafts. Get good player at the top, get very little with your remaining picks.

Combined with his ability to overpay for every bad FA out there, I think Stevie Y should have been canned for sure.

1 out of 6 seasons with him at GM where they have more than 85 points... ONE

Bylsma fired. Will he get another job and be fired again before our drought ends?

I think it's an honest question to start wondering if McDavid will hit UFA after next year. Leon is a great player, but McDavid literally is Edmonton's team right now. 4 points, and you lose 6-5 after he ties it with 90 second left.

It's a Lebron in Cleveland situation - he needs to consider his future and going to a team that actually has a good structure without him.

As an aside, Jeff Skinner's first playoff game he manages to pick up an assist and is outshot 9-4 and outscored 3 to 1. Heh, who'd a thunk it.
