It sure would be nice if we could somehow recreate Dallas' 2017 draft. Heiskanen, Oettinger and Robertson all in one draft. That's following on their 2015 draft where they picked Gurianov and Hintz. They also picked Wyatt Johnson in 2021, who is already making an impact on their team.

Other than Heiskanen and Gurianov, none of those guys were selected in the top 20. And both Robertson and Hintz were selected in the 2nd round.

Meanwhile, we keep picking guys who hopefully pan out as our new McGinn if everything goes right. :sarcasm:

(PS. Before anyone mentions those specific draft years and where the Pens were picking, I'm talking in general. Good, even great, players are available even if you're not picking top 10. We just always seem to end up with low ceiling guys)
We’re a low ceiling team. Sullivan is a pure 90s guy and the team drafts as such.

It was a while ago now but I'm just thankful for a draft pick like Guentzel and the cup he helped win. He has the highest goal per game average in the playoffs among active players, tied with MacKinnon.

2017 is probably the worst draft in the Crosby Malkin era by our team lol

You could say 2008 was worse. But we had no picks.

Lol Rangers. Igor allows the game tying goal with under a minute left and then Tkachuk scores the OT winner with 20 seconds left. That team is a mess.
I didn't think they were gonna storm through the East with Kreider posting another 50+ goal season and Shesterkin laughing his way to another Vezina but man is that team a shitshow for the talent they've got.

I don't think any of our drafts since the Guentzel draft in 2013 are anything more than meh at best, pathetic at worst. 2014 has produced Kapanen and Lafferty and that's arguably the best of the post-Guentzel years.

Addison and Sprong were good picks if we are just going by their NHL success.

The rest of the years are effectively too soon to judge.

I’m hoping the Isles sort of come back down to earth now. Goaltending has been carrying them for far too long.
It's a shame two of our division rivals have such strong goaltending because I don't think the Rangers or Islanders would be much of a threat to finish ahead of us if they had league average goaltenders.

We used to be a high floor, low ceiling team, and it worked out for a long time.
It eventually stopped working, so in the past few years, we've started drafting for higher ceilings. Puustinen, for example, is definitely not a high-floor player.

I'm cheering for the Leafs to win the Cup if the Pens don't just because some Pens fans seem to hold a grudge against Murray for no reason other than him usurping Fleury.
Not me, he won his 2 cups and got paid big for sucking after. He's set for life no matter what. I feel bad for less fortunate people.

I was talking Matheson

Feel bad for him.
Matheson, yeah. He didn't deserve that. But the Habs are a weird team, they sometimes look great but other times like straight shit. I don't like that he'd play with a shitbag like Mailloux someday. But he's home and I'm sure he's loving that part.

I don't hate Murray for replacing Fleury at all. I don't hate him period. I dislike him though because he is a smarmy douche that blames everyone and everything but himself and is lucky he has been given three chances to resurrect his career. Hearing him in interviews over the years, he always rubbed me the wrong way. Just comes off like a pick.

Also nothing would make me cheer for the Leafs and their fan base. I would, however, absolutely get a f***ing kick out of them making the finals and being swept and destroyed with blowout losses. That would make me immensely happy, even more if Murray was in net for all of them.

The Rags play St. Louis, Vegas, Colorado, New Jersey and Toronto in the next two weeks, wouldn't it be nice if they go on a long losing skid? Clearly they are missing Ryan Reaves, lol.

If the Rags and Caps can keep losing, I’d feel pretty secure in the Pens place in the POs…lol…of course, they won’t beat Isles, Canes or NJD in round one but that’s another story lol…
