Hextall and Burke got fired, Dubas went to Pittsburgh and Florida took their spot and went on a 3 year run.

Yeah, I’m getting ‘09 Pens vibes with the Oilers. I think all Draisaitl and McDavid need is some key goals and they’ll do the rest.

They feel the more success he has, the more of a challenge he presents to Sid and his ranking on some dumb, arbitrary, and reductive player rankings. Instead of enjoying his talents it brings out insecurity about where Sid ranks all time.

In truth there is no definitive list. There is no way to account for all the context and nuances. What if Mario was healthier and played with the talent Gretzky did? What if Sid didn’t have to play in some of the lowest scoring years? What if the players of the 80s had composite sticks and light weight pads, and what if Ovechkin got to shoot against goalies before everyone started using the butterfly and looked like the marshmallow puft man.

It’s impossible. That won’t stop people from putting too much investment in them and actively rooting for and against players as a result.
