I can’t even imagine what a trade for McDavid would look like. I feel like the team trading for him would give up so much they would get worse, while the Oilers would be giving up the better player but would be improving overall depth.

Also imagine having 2 of the best players in the world and not being able to build around them? That’s disgraceful and terrible for the sport. It’s a shame the league let McDavid go there in the first place.

How many times in those 80+ they had anything like McDrei and all the other 1-2 OA picks that the Oil has?

We literally had Kovalev, Zubov and Messier at one point and let them all leave and the pain was real for a long time after lol. And if it wasn't for Messier being a legend getting a hat trick vs NJ, we'd be on the longest losing streak of the entire league still.

that's the thing - Rangers may have traded away personnel that shouldn't have been traded, but Can teams have all the players they need (or the oppo to trade for those) and still suck.

I just don't see McDavid demanding a trade. Edmonton shitcans the GM and coach and even trades Draisaitl before they should even entertain the thought. If McDavid starts forcing the issue though, it could be big trouble.

The Rangers can't make a move for him. They handcuffed themselves with the Zibanajad, Panarin, Kreider, and Trouba contracts. Kreider or Trouba aren't waiving for f***ing Edmonton.

You should re-watch some of his press conferences from this season.

Canucks and Senators have had great clubs and won no cups...and their management was decent as well . Having talent alone does not always mean Cup celebrations . Maybe you just wanted to be Oiler specific....and if so and of late....like the last 10 years...you would be right . The drafting and management has been bad in the Cap era.

The problem with the canadian teams outside of mtl and toronto is that they need playoff revenues. That makes them do panic moves like aquiring an aging Duncan Keith instead of a shut down player, a James Neal instead of a long term answer to depth scoring, things like that continue to haunt a team that continues to chase a playoff round instead of holding to your picks and prospects and letting it simmer until your prospects are ready.

Interesting note from todays 32T.

Briere is a finalist in MTL, however comcast loves him and really doesn’t want to lose him.

If the MTL job goes to Hughes, and it’s apparently his if he wants it, does Philly move Fletcher out and promote Briere?

Anyone else feels that the fans of Canadian teams are shortchanged by a common problem that is poor all around management?

like the Rangers, the canada teams are money-printing machines, win or lose. That takes away the extra incentive of being extra-sure of every decision.

Montreal & Toronto, yes. Edmonton, sort of (11% profit).

Vancouver only profited a few million (2% of revenue) in 19/20 and both the Jets and Senators lost money.

What I meant they've got money, fans, players (Oil, Leafs, Habs and Flames aren't too shabby as well) but barely get by result-wise.
As for the comparison with NYR it's mostly based on history, but let's be real stuff from like 20-25 yrs ago (another millennium) isn't that relevant (in this case). I'm talking about the current period, with all their star power (or more balanced rosters for other CAN teams).

Of course Vegas becomes human right after kicking our asses.

penguins have some serious depth which we lack. Their stars are old but def. have enough in the tank for another run, unfortunately. Hoping they peaked early
