McDavid definitely not lasting til the end of his contract. Dude is just done with the Oilers.
He'll only be traded if he requests a trade. If that happens then the trade value is not the same at all. We saw it just now with Eichel. Yeah, Connor is better and healthier, but the concept is the same. The hardest part of any McDavid trade isn't going to be the assets involved, it's going to be fitting in his contract.Id love to see a team be able to put a package together that would allow edmonton to trade him. I can't see any team putting together an offer good enough that wouldn't cripple their own team yet be big enough for edmonton to trade him.

If he requests a trade, I would imagine it would be a complete tear down and rebuild for the Oilers and Drasaitl would be moved as well. If it's for pure futures, it'd be interesting to see how many dozens of young players and draft picks it would take.
As to the bolded, if he's ever traded there is a 0% chance it's in the west.To make the cap work the Oilers would need to take some main roster players on any team, which would mean sweeteners. It would be some mad science hybrid of the Gretzky to LA meets Hirschel Walker to Minnesota meets Lindros to Flyers trade. The other team would need to have a lot of pieces in place to move on ELCs, or in the pipeline to replace them or else McDavid ends up with the Johnny Brodzinski's of the world.
Rangers for example would need to move one of Trouba/Kreider, one of Kaako/Laf, Kravstov, one of Jones/Lundkvist/Schneider, like and like 2-3 firsts and perhaps one of Cullye/Berrard to even get the Oilers to listen. And Strome is most likely walking unless McDavid is letting him squat in Tribeca loft.
The Senators, Wings, and Devils would all be realistic placed cap wise, but of those, McDavid may only want to go to the Wings.
Kraken and perhaps the future Houston Coyotes as well, but the former is being run like a traditional expansion team and is not going to be competitive for 2-3 years, while with the Coyotes, it's back to square one.

Has he said what? This is about Edmonton. I'm saying he'll be traded east because they don't want him in the West.Has he said this? Link? If he wants out that badly, he'll go to whomever can afford him cap wise.
Edmonton will be forced to trade him for 50 cents on the dollar, or he's going to have to realize with his salary he can't play with Crosby, in hockey Meccas like Montreal or Toronto, or big US markets like New York and Boston. It will not work cap wise or he's going to be on the ice with AAAA players.

That McDavid quote about Kane is kinda weird. He certainly doesn't have to answer about it because it's still hypothetical. It's like he wanted to piss people off.
Was just reading through some of the replies from Oilers fans about how much Connor loves being in Edmonton and how he'd do anything to win for them. Very clearly trying to convince themselves more than anyone else, could almost taste the desperation.
They are always going to take less value. Buffalo just did that with Eichel. Gretzky was traded to LA over 30 years ago because Peter Pocklington needed money. Lindros trade was also long ago and Philly considered him damaged goods at the time, and they didn't want to trade him to Toronto because that's what he preferred. Neither of those situations are the same. Then they're going to have to take less value. The NMC plus his salary makes it extremely limited to just 16 teams in the East. It's more of a cap situation and who can afford him. Gretzky was traded in conference to LA and the Rangers made a very good offer. Lindros was traded in conference to Philly with the Rangers as the runner up.
Is the NHL actually going to have the ASG this year?
Kind of a complete joke to pretend that they care about COVID if they are going to have an event where players and staff from every single franchise gather under the same roof.
McDavind in NY assuming we manage to keep Fox, Shesterkin and Panarin would be insane. Those 4 guys alone could ice a really competitive team. Anybody else is on the table for me including Schieder, Kakko, Laf, Miller, Othman, Lundkvist, whoever we draft this year, 1st and 2nd round picks.
We aren't free falling at all. We are doing better than expected! Pitt will overtake the Rangers. I cheer for that to be proven wrong!Their winning streak was against a bunch of shit teams just like ours was. I’m not impressed and they haven’t done shit in the playoffs in a while. And we’re tied for 1st in the metro. Stop acting like we’re free falling. We’ll be fighting for the first spot until game 82

Bobby Clarke will not be sending Ron Hextall a birthday card anytime soon.
The players just want to win. They don't really care about the off ice stuff and I think McDavid's answer pretty much shows that. Especially with someone like him who they know they can just cut if anything negative happens. The whole "distraction" thing is just the fans/media creating a story.

this is actually true. I play hockey with one of the junior scouts for the Flyers and he said the same thing. Hextall was the only one that wanted Patrick. The scouts were pleading for Makar and they thought that Hextall was going to announce Makar and then he announced Patrick as their pick. The scouts were pissed!!
I wish these guys would get Sather on and get Glen to open up about his time and also Gorton, J.D. and Dolan.Clarke hates Hextall for stealing Trevor Lewis from him.
He's also going to bat for his buddy Chuck Fletcher.
