This is important...

Pro Hockey Rumors is reporting (via CAP friendly) that the requirement for NHL games played for the expansion draft has been dropped to 27/54 from 40/70. From the Rangers perspective that means Bitetto only needs to play three games to be an eligible defenseman who meets the exposure requirement. That frees the Rangers to play Hajek, shop him or send him to the AHL.

Several potentially vulnerable forwards have already met the requirement.

Credit to GMJG for excellent planning here.

That is good news.

He planned that there would be a 56 game season and lesser requirements?

The only way Gorton could have known about the coronavirus and the subsequent results it would have had on sports as we know it would have to have been...

...no way...

...Gorton created the coronavirus AND rigged the lottery to get Laf!

And brainwashed Yzerman into taking Staal.

I keep hearing comments that a lot of teams will be keeping an eye on Arizona and Clayton Keller. That could be a story that emerges as the season progresses, or leading into next offseason.

Do the Rangers view him as a possible c or a winger?

So, 8 games with Boston, should maybe re-heat that rivalry, felt it has gone a little cold the last several seasons.

Lol.

Since when do we have a rivalry with the Bruins? We don't play in the same division and have met once in the playoffs the last 46 years.

Even in the late 80s-mid 9os when both teams were good, there never really felt like a rivalry with them. They were the "oh that's the team with Cam Neely, Ray Borque, and Craig Janney...cool."

I dunno, two Original 6 teams, NY and Boston rival , always felt the games were more rowdy with Bruins fans in the stands, I remember one of those last games of the season years ago, went to a Bruins/Rangers game, they needed the win to help lock a playoff spot. I also remember the last playoff series, went to those games, was a disappointment of course but to me Boston will always feel like a rival, and now playing them 8 times, could be interesting. NBC also tends to match them up as well, and I’ve always circled those games to ones I like to go to.

Maybe its my hatred towards the Red Sox and Patriots that fuels more rival towards the Bruins since I put them all in the same boat. On another note , felt great today Miami knocking New England out of the playoffs and breaking their playoff streak.

So, looking forward to these Bruins and Rangers games.

I’d argue we’re more rivals with Philly than Boston. Especially in hockey and football. Sorry Jets fans but Giants-Eagles is one of the top rivalries in all of football. Patriots-Jets is too one-sided. Phillies-Mets has been nastier but has fallen off as well.

Lol @ ESPN for trying to push the Yankees-Red Sox since 2004 though. Zzzzzz. That’s all but dead.

That rivalry may be more high-profile, but there’s little else. The Knicks suck so who really counts their rivalries with the Sixers and Celtics?

Its like the Islanders to me. They’ve been so f***ing awful for literally decades they don’t really move the needle at all for me. That one point in the other thread I gave them was out of pity.

Agreed. The Bruins have always just been there and it seemed like the league desperately has tried to market them the last ten years as some big bad team in order to be successful (which to the leagues credit the big market teams need to be successful in order for the league to be as well). It’s comical.

Sorry but I just don’t agree with this crossover into hockey just because people hate the Red Sox and Patriots. I feel nothing towards them. They’re Montreal’s issue.

They didn’t even sell out TD Garden during the 2000s. I remember Bourque leaving for Colorado and winning and being happy for him. Would I do that for a long-tenured Flyer?

The NHL tries to turn it into one with their Thanksgiving Showdown regularly, but it doesn't work if they aren't in the same division. I think there's definitely potential for the NHL to re-ignite the Original Six shtick if they wish to do so, with 3 divisions having 2 each. It's perfect

Toronto vs Montreal in the North
Boston vs New York in the East
Chicago vs Detroit in the Central

I feel obligated to share this video arguing the name "Original Six" before someone brings it up haha

it depends on how obnoxious they are talking. There is a lot of room between adding a single logo that will barely be noticeable and making players skating billboards like in Europe.

but the nhl and nhlpa should be looking for ways to grow revenue to increase the pool that they are splitting. And that has nothing to do with covid. They should want to grow it cause that’s best for both sides.

obviously there is a line for how far you should go but if you want to grow the game you need to get with the times. ‘Tradition’ isn’t always a reason to not do something
Yeah. It makes sense probably to get some uni sponsorship. As long as it’s done appropriately. There’s totally a reasonable balance to be struck.

I don’t think I’d like sponsorship on a baseball uniform, for example. But hockey kind of lends itself to it. And places with much more hockey history have already gone down that path.

Didn't even know that video existed, but thanks for posting that. I agree with Olbermann 100%. I couldn't give a f*** about the "Original Six" because not only were most of them not the Original Six, but that 25-year era was dominated by two teams. Montreal won the Cup ten times and Toronto won it nine times. Detroit won five times, Chicago won once.

I mean really, if you're a Blackhawks, Bruins or Rangers fan, how could you possibly care about that era? We didn't win a damn thing the entire time.
