Wish they'd just treat it like icing
Puck over the glass penalty should just be treated like an icing.

That's it.

Yeah, I hate that rule that it's an automatic penalty.

I'm not a fan of the rule. But, it's such an easy one to understand, and it's now been around for a while, but no-one seems to have adjusted. Regardless of whether it is dumb, defensive and breakout strategies should have been modified to account for it. For the most part they haven't, and it has finally cost a team big time

Gurianov is having his coming out party this playoffs. Dallas' top guys are playing well, but secondary guys like Gurianov, Kiviranta, Faksa, and Hintz are all contributing.

Now Tampa needs to finish the job tomorrow, and I can have a nice stress-free final.

Exactly!

For our boys not being involved for almost a month, due to the stinken Islanders, tho the stress level has never gotten to defcom 5, it's been high enough to keep us a bit edgy.

So yeah, let's get rid of the Islanders once and for all so we can have a nice fall and watch the Cup, the Mets,Jets and Giants lose more than they win and than some guy Lafreniere become a Ranger!

The problem is that if the puck rolls on you even slightly it could be the difference of it going out or not. And sometimes you don't have time to do anything else besides sending it up the ice, it's not always Girardi back there throwing it up the boards 100% of the time

Gurianov has had a great playoffs. 17 points and some big time goals. He’s such a big, fast player too. Kiviranta 4 goals in six games (really in two); picked huge moments to score. Hintz I love. Picked up a Hintz Jersey when I moved down to Dallas. Kinda crazy that I moved here on August 20th and 24 days later Dallas is in the Cup.

You have the option to eat it, its not a good one but thats why the dump ins are effective. I don't mind the rule myself, players were flipping it out on purpose using it like a time out when they needed a break. With no change on an icing it would be in the crowd after every icing.

I don't think it would if it worked like icings do, it happens sometimes where teams ice the puck a few times in a row, but not often enough that I think it would become an actual problem

Yeah, I think people forget what it was like in the last few seasons before they instituted free rule. It needs to be a penalty and the players need to adjust

(And for the most part, I think they have. How often do you see it called — once every 3-4 games? That’s less than tripping and hooking and the other more common penalties.)

The reason it came into being was that everytime a team got pinned it its own end or a line got stuck in a poor matchup situation someone would deliberately put the puck over the glass and for some teams it became just a basic strategy of playing a defensive style of game--Florida in the 90's would do it so often that their games were regularly 3 and a half hour affairs. I'm not a great fan actually of the Brodeur rule actually where goalies can't wander into corners--that said the further the goalie wanders away from the crease IMO the more leeway other teams should have to hit him.

The Avery rule was another farce---not so much that they made it but they made it overnight.
