Didn't take long for the Sabres to start slipping, imagine what an Eichel, O'Reilly one-two woulda been
They really don't have a good roster outside of one good line. Also, hot take: I think Dahlin at his current level is getting massively overrated; People never say "Wow, he's playing so well!" they say "Wow, he's going to win 15 Norris trophies one day!".

I kind of feel like Yandle is one of those guys who, though talented, shouldn't be one of your core, go-to players.

There's a comment a former associate of mine made a few weeks ago, regarding the Florida Panthers, that stood out to me.

It was something along the lines of, if Keith Yandle is your best defenseman, that's probably why you're still struggling to make the playoffs for the first time in a generation.

It wasn't so much as a knock on Yandle, so much as the belief that he's a guy you role out behind your big guns. And I tend to agree with that.

I get that and sort of agree, but I’d put that issue further down the list of reasons the Panthers have struggled to make the playoffs

Don't get me wrong, he's not the root cause. But I also don't think he's necessarily the answer.

There's no one to challenge him for more ice time, so he go out there, do his thing, and racks up very good offensive numbers.

But at the end of the day, I think overall benefit probably looks more impressive on his Hockey Reference page than it does it with regards to the entire team's success and progress.

I don't think it's coincidence that his greatest success, and output, tends to come on teams that are middle of the pack or lower. I feel like that kind of feels fitting.

Sure. He isn't well-rounded enough to be a #1 defenseman on a good team. Maybe you can get away with that on a team with specialist dmen- 2 offensive that don't play PK minutes and 4 defensive, but it's not ideal. Most good teams have an all-situations defender. Right now for Florida that's Ekblad.

On a side note- I'm still waiting for Ovechkin to start slowing down. He's really gonna have me thinking 895 instead of 802 soon.

I was told players start breaking down when they hit 30 :sarcasm:

Shame. Toronto should have traded for McDonagh and signed him to a $8M deal long term that year and skipped this whole Muzzin and Barrie route and actually get themselves a solid 1D

Devils seems to be tanking earlier than normal this year.
Man Subban sucks.
Without Superman Taylor Hall they are a garbage team
