Around the NHL - Part XLV (Playoffs edition)

Man if im a leafs fan I don't wanna hear those comments from Maurice and Marchand
Just adding more salt to the wound
Especially Maurice. Maybe it's just me or he comes off smug in a passive aggressive way

Very much so, even when he had hair while coaching the Pens

Toronto has had the same problem (bad defensive core) for 7 years now and never addressed it. they always trade for some old slug at the deadline and think it's fixed. at least this year they got Carlo but it wasn't enough. they looked like us last night, could not move the puck out of the zone and up the ice to save their lives. it's no surprise that the "core 4" wasn't able to generate any offense.

It could just be that Florida is simply better than anyone else in the East. Everyone can retool or whatever but no one in the East can play the heavy game they play, plus their depth does their job, in addition to their stars being a wagon, that's the bottom line. They picked up 30 year old Seth Jones and he plugs in seamlessly. This matchup with Carolina is intriguing if only for the fact that it's a 2023 rematch and Florida's only gotten stronger while the Canes are a weaker team.

also, and I know this goes against the “goalies don’t matter” dogma around here but they have literally never had a goalie who was even slightly above backup level . They just find a new journeyman backup every year to hitch their wagon to and inevitable fail.

I never liked the Tavares signing for Toronto. Even when they did it it made no sense. It made them too top heavy and didn’t allow them to address their defense, goaltending, and overall depth.

I’d imagine they’re in for a major retooling. They can’t run it back with these guys. Marner is really talented, and losing him for nothing sucks, but cap space and roster spots are can be assets too.

true, and then Stolarz was actually pretty good and got murdered

The team culture isn't conducive to winning, and basically every fan agrees that the roster needs some pretty drastic changes. But it seems like half of us are fixating on Drury, and half on the players themselves, even though we all want the same
Why can’t we have both? :sarcasm:
I agree with Drury in principle, but he is a truly dreadful manager of people, and when the word ‘manager’ is literally in your job title…
