Around the NHL - Part XLV (Playoffs edition)

Lol, there’s like 5 people who watch hockey there. Did you see how many people were in their celebrations last year? Not many.
I was going to make the same point, then I deleted it, haha. Remember Tkachuk walking around with the Cup the next morning and no one even acknowledge it ?

I don't really care what the actual team looks like, when I'm thinking about who I want to win the Cup (or rather, who I don't want to win it). Yeah, Florida is an annoying, dirty team. Cool. It's also harmless if they win, because no-one cares. If a Canadian team wins, it would be disastrous.

I'nm so glad the Leafs exist so that we don't have to be by far the worst O6 franchise of the past half century
I ran the numbers starting from the '74-'75 season and it's not as dire as you might think:

Boston: 2,092 W, 1,318 L, 551 T/OTL/SOL, 42 playoff appearances, 12 CF, 7 SCF, 1 cup.

Toronto: 1,770 W, 1,689 L, 506 T/OTL/SOL, 31 playoff appearances, 4 CF, 0 SCF, 0 cups.

Montreal: 1,996 W, 1,418 L, 549 T/OTL/SOL, 37 playoff appearances, 12 CF, 7 SCF, 5 cups (4 of them in the '70's).

Detroit: 1,830 W, 1,586 L, 547 T/OTL/SOL, 31 playoff appearances, 9 CF, 6 SCF, 4 cups.

Chicago: 1,751 W, 1,654 L, 557 T/OTL/SOL, 34 playoff appearances, 12 CF, 4 SCF, 3 cups.

Rangers: 1,887 W, 1,578 L, 487 T/OTL/SOL, 33 playoff appearances, 10 CF, 3 SCF, 1 cup.

People tend to forget that Detroit had a fantastic 15-year run, but both sides of that run are complete tire fires. They also forget that Chicago made the playoffs 22 years straight from '75-'97, but they were in a really weak division for quite a few of those years, making the playoffs with as low as 63 points in a full season.

Toronto pushing it to 7 only to lose would be peak Toronto though.

I'm basically expecting that to be the outcome.
I hope they get stomped tonight. Obviously them winning would be the worst, but if they lose after a good effort, the G5 will be the talking point. I want it even worse for them!

5-1 Florida, with the only Toronto goal scored by Chris Tanev. Matthews and Marner -4. Delicious.

Toronto is the worst AINEC.

Also, Boston 1-6 in SCF is rough

On Matthews and Marner. Soft passive and lazy. Regular season players. Teams don't win with these types of perimeter players in the playoffs. Both are the type of players perfect for an expansion team or a rebuilding team. He's not the type for playoff success. They are like Mika and Panarin.

Step-kiddos last baseball game of the year is at 8pm (9 EST) so I’m not watching much hockey tonight, but instead will be “discretely” drinking from one of my girl’s Stanley cups (so who is the real champion here?) filled with club soda and tequila while watching 6 & 7 year olds get struck out by their own coaches for the next 2 hours. Joy.
