Around the NHL - Part XLIII

Why has Necas been on the block for years now? The kid is a great player. Such an excellent skater. Exactly the type of player who succeeds in the modern NHL.

I don’t understand what the Canes, a typically smart organization, were thinking here.

He didn’t buy in to their full effort all the time style of play and wanted a big contract on his next deal. Defensively, he’s not great either and much of that is related to his effort level. That’s not to say he isn’t a good player, just not what Carolina wanted to invest long term in

It's entirely the contract. They are really cheap and he told them years ago he wanted a market contract and they don't like that. That's it.

despite all the inconsistent play to date, NYR smack dab right there in contention for playoff spot,
just 1-1/2 GB
but in a deep group of 5-8 teams

The problem is while I think the roster even with all its warts is better than probably all of those team the give a f*** factor is probably worse than all of those teams.

Is it owrth rooting against the Lightning or are they comfortably in?
TBL now "plus 11"
in my mind they're firmly in the Atlantic 3rd/Eastern 6th spot
until they lose a lot. or Bos/Ott/Det/Habs catch/pass them
and each of those has had multiple poor streaks right after spurting close to Bolts
