Canuck’s GM making it sound fairly likely Pettersson is on his way out.

Kreider + Zib + Miller
For
Pettersson + Hoglander + Soucy

Is identical dollars in/out. Just saying.

Edit: starting next year when Hoglander’s extension kicks in, but he’s been on the block pretty publicly for a while for a change of scenery. Miller is RFA this summer, Soucy has some term left.

Gross. Pettersson isn't going to fix the Rangers issues. Another overpaid player that disappears in the playoffs 13 games 1 goal 6 points last season and haven't made the playoffs since 19-20 where he had 7 goals 18 points in 17 games. Trading Mika for a younger version of himself and soft. No thanks.

Meh, more physical than Mika, shockingly. Better Selke finishes than Mika. But more importantly, gets Mika off the team. Pettersson could easily be a guy who is just unhappy where he is and crushes it with a change of scenery. He had 90 points last year and is only a few points off of point per game this year. Soucy is a downgrade on upside but upgrade on actual D and the type of D we need to stop bleeding goals. Hoglander has decent upside but has fallen out of favor in Vancouver. I make this trade all day simply to be rid of Mika.

Panarin - Trochek - Lafreniere
Cuylle - Pettersson - Hoglander
Lindgren - Fox
Soucy - Schneider

Or

Panarin - Trochek - Lafreniere
Kreider - Zibanejad - Smith
Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Schneider

I’d take the opportunity to swap problems for problems and gamble on a 26 year old center with 102 and 90 point seasons, while finishing 7th in Selke voting finding some renewed vigor, personally. It’s like the only destination that seems even remotely possible Zib gets sent, and I see far more upside in the Rangers getting younger and getting out of a horrible contract.

I mean, hadn’t made the playoffs since 19-20? You mean the season that he started as a 20 year old and turned 21 during? And went over point per game as a 21 year old in the playoffs? It’s a team sport when guys like McDavid make it to age 30 without a Cup, but apparently not when guys like Pettersson can’t get their team in the playoffs despite scoring 102 points and finishing top 10 in Selke voting in the same year? Yeah, maybe I’d be checked out after that too. 100 point center with one of the best 200’ foot games in the league and my team still can’t make the playoffs. Maybe I’d be a bit sour. He had some injuries. Still put up 90 last year. Canucks finally made the playoffs and he had a poor showing, but apparently one poor playoff run at age 25 is career defining. Panarin’s still a Ranger after how many? And a Ranger practically no one wants to trade even though he’s 31 years old, playoff no show, only one year remaining on his contract and virtually everyone is like “if we trade Panarin, we’ll really suck” as if we haven’t been outscored 72-36 in the past 19 games with him on the team. HF is a gross echo chamber of bad takes on players. Has been since its inception pretty much, so not surprising.

Shit, If I'm not ready to be more disappointed by this team then I'm just sleeping through the last two months.

EF indicated there's a lot of interest in the guy. Hope a team gets desperate.

The Trouba trade is huge win.
So he got cap space back, and will most likely use to overpay on another Goodrow Nemeth type.

Back on the east coast
We all knew it was a time for a divorce. But I have a strong feeling we will look back on it like the Buch trade, sold for f***ing scraps.
I wasn't one of his bigger fans and I have no issues moving on from him, but there was zero reason to move him now for THAT return. I doubt the return was ever going to be mind blowing, I just don't understand the timing or the player they targeted.

I watch a LOT of Vancouver games due to wife being a Canuck and I’d swap Mika for Petterson in a heartbeat.
