The Michkov lesson is that having to buy yourself out of your KHL contract is not a serious argument since a player's gear sponsor can pick that up no problem.

It would be nice to draft a really small sniper rookie that hits 61 points in year 1 to win the Calder. That's just me. :)
Any moron can do that if you just give him all the minutes and offensive deployment and let him be a -40

unrelated but Marty Nachos is having an insane start to the year. 3rd in league scoring behind MacKinnon and Kaprizov.

Reinhart and Eichel round out the top 5 lol Buffalo

Agree. As good as Ovi is, that he will be spoken of in the same breaths as Wayne is beyond appalling.
I don't get this...at all. He's earned it & then some. Even if you ignore the the fact that a couple of lockouts robbed him of at least 70 goals, he's been a great player since he entered the league.

If this is remotely about his politics, then I'm done here.

I also don't know why anyone wouldn't want to see it happen other than nationalism or his politics. Would be good for the game to see a guy who everyone thought his records were unbreakable have his record broken.

With respect to your exceptional post count, this ain't got jack shit to do with politics. I never mentioned that at all. I'm an old bastard and never thought I'd see any of Wayne's records broken. To rub salt into my wound my paternal grandmother is from St Petersburg.

Are we cool?

(Apologies for the heated tone of my reply).

We've always been cool, it wasn't meant as a personal shot at you. I was just being proactive about politics because some whiners want to bring that up when Ovi is mentioned & I was making it clear I'm not getting dragged into that.

I love Wayne, he will always be the best player ever. With that said, when Ovi breaks this record, he'll deserve it, end of story, IMO.

My post count is more embarrassing than exceptional btw...I was thinking earlier tonight, I really need to get a life.

You're averaging over 2375 posts a year. That's about 7 a day. You got me beat by a fair margin!

The game has changed drastically a few times over since Gretz's heyday. Thus the record is rather meaningless IMO. It's not baseball.

That said, I do hope that the Caps fall off, the sooner the better

??????

It is absolutely not meaningless lmao. If anything it means even more since Ovechkin is doing it in an era that is objectively harder to score in.

Nope I've said what I meant. Meaningless. Different era 40 years apart, totally diff player, diff trophy wise. What even was the equipment they used in the 80s?
How do you compare them?

I’ll compare them by observing that Ovechkin’s goal number will be bigger than Gretzky’s.

It’s a tough science but I’ve determined that 895 is bigger than 894.

And yet, nobody is even close except Ovi.
