Being at that time the team's highest pick in over 50 years along with the pressure of having to perform and just New York in general wasn't a good fit for Kakko. If he wasn't a consensus top two pick and more of a middle first rounder, doubt the Rangers and him even synch up.
He's not a loud and flashy guy, in fact is quite the opposite. To succeed in this market you gotta have one of three personalities:
1. JT Miller loud
2. Hardworking go with the flow think like a Will Cullye or someone like a Brandon Nimmo is baseball
3, Aloof and silly like an Eli Manning
There are the occasional outliers like Roy White who was an awesome Yankee.
New York was too big and too much for Kakko. Seattle he more of just blends in.
