So their entire team is just Jack Hughes while their fans say we’re all Shesterkin (as if goalies aren’t part of a team)?

All I've been hearing for a year was this amazing young forward depth that NJ has. The reason they're losing and we're not is because their coach is a clown and ours if a future HOFer. That team with and without Jack Hughes plays the same exact pond hockey nonsense with no structure. Lindy Ruff is even worse than Gallant in that way. With Jack Hughes they can win every game 5-4, without him not so much.

Ok. Missing a Norris Dman and Vezina goalie plus your 2c is no big deal. Got it.
Not at all what I said. Hughes was off to an MVP caliber start. Panarin has been our best player this season. Fox has been good but not Panarin level so far. Shesty has been mediocre by his standards. Chytil hasn't scored a goal yet. Hischier is also injured by the way. No team in the league doesn't experience a major drop in play without their top two centers.

Fox is our best defensive player and second best offensive player, third best when Mika doesn't have his head up his ass. He might be our most important player when taking into account both sides of the ice. He's also the best PP QB in the league. Seriously, this is such a weird hill to die on. We lost our #1 defenseman, #2 center, and #1 goalie. Last game we won with our third string goalie and gave up 1 goal.

I am not saying that our injured players aren't important. They obviously are. Laviolette should get a ton of credit for our performance since their injuries. Ruff hasn't been as successful in that regard. Hughes was the MVP frontrunner before gettng injured. Hughes' breakout last year led that team to one of the biggest rises in the standings that the league has seen. Hischier is one of the best number two centers in the league. Your own quote proves my point. "With Jack Hughes they can win every game 5-4, without him not so much." He might be the most important player to his team in the entire league.

Yes, but we've been hearing about this amazing young forward depth the Devils have and ours is supposed to suck. My last sentence is true but that's more of a indictment on Ruff than a credit to Jack Hughes. Until this year no one really thought of our group as that defensively responsible. Lo and behold we get a coach that has a system and they are. Lindy Ruff is a shitty coach. HE'S the reason they look like shit without Hughes. Hell they were disappointing even with Hughes because their defensive play is atrocious.

Hughes is more important to that team than any of them are to us.
Then they're a trash team like the Oilers but with one less superstar. I'm bored of Devils and Canes idiots thinking their teams are Cup favorites - reality is just now setting in.

The Canes are what they are and it's not good enough. The Devils are like a man that's been dying of thirst finally getting a drink last year - it's a franchise that's sucked for a decade or more and racked up top picks. But now teams have them figured out and it's going to be a lot harder for them.

The atrociously bad Craps could well be 2d in the Metro soon. They have 2 games in hand on the Canes and 1 on the Devils. I don't think they will but it's not about the Craps, it's about how poor Carolina and NJ are playing right now. The Rangers need to continue to take points during this period and know that at some point Zbad, Kreider, Kakko will get their shit together either on the same line or other combos.

All these jabronis calling the Oilers a Cup contender are the same ones calling the Devils one. They see flashy skill and nothing else. No goalies, meh at best coaching and an overmatched defense on both teams. Obviously the Devils are a playoff team, and the Oilers arent this bad, but the people who analyze today's NHL are not very informed when it comes to what actually wins.

To expand on this, the layman (or NHL media in this case) would think that teams Tampa Bay and Vegas have won cups because of their high end skill (which they both have). But the truth is they won because of the great team defense they realized they had to play after some near misses and early exits. The Oilers have McD/Drai and literally nothing else any other team covets, and they dont play defense or prioritize having a goalie on top of that. Even after all these years of coming up short.
Yep. It’s all about that defensive structure. Start with that and the talent can shine when opportunities arise. Full throttle offense like the Oilers and Devils doesn’t work, at least not anymore.
