I really am torn and I'm sure it's not a popular opinion on HFNYR, but there's a part of me that wants to see Tampa eat **** in the first round just so I can taste all of the "Rangers are our farm team" d-bags tears.

I care far more about the Rangers well-being than reveling in the moment when some stupid fans realize they were over-confident and arrogant.

In a few years, when they are saddled with old, under-performing vets and we have that 31st overall pick playing a key role in our Stanley Cup run, along with Howden, Hajek and Lundkvist we can say 'haha, could have been you!.'

As much as I miss making the playoffs, it sure is a heck of a lot of fun to watch playoff OT hockey without feeling like you're gonna have a heart attack at any moment.

I feel it allows me to enjoy the "sport" of hockey a lot more.

Watching a game, having a vested interest in it, but not having core rooting interest can be fun.

If the stars align for the Rangers, we need a WCF of DAL vs VGK/COL (with DAL losing), and an ECF of TBL vs CAR, with TBL winning the Cup.

Assuming Zucc meets the GP requirement, that would give the Rangers the following in the draft: #2, #19, #28, #31

It's sad that at this point it feels as if Winnipeg's pick being in the teens feels more likely than Tampa's pick being in the first.

There’s a beautiful silver lining to that scenario: you either stay put and have a chance at someone like Caufield, or, you have a great trade chip to try to move up a few more spots to nab someone like Newhook. If it all aligns perfectly, you’re potentially in a better position to move up to draft Zegras.

I'm quite okay with this. I don't know what it is about TB and their management but them losing wouldn't upset me as much. Especially if Winnipeg lost in Round 1. I realize this is silly as TB winning The Cup is in the Rangers best interest but I just can't quite get there to root for that.

Yeah, we don't want guys that set up GWG's in playoff games.

A basic pass on a PP, which is not exactly “setting up the GWG” with a nice play, offsets being a -1 and irrelevant the whole game? Interesting theory.

If people want a center, Newhook becomes a very real possibility to move into position for if Winnipeg's pick is 19, or even the low 20s.

If people want Zegras, we'll need to be closer. Say, like maybe Arizona's pick at 14.

Assuming Dallas and Tampa fail, the highest those picks could be are 49 and 60. That would give us picks 37, 49 and 60 in the second round. Those picks might help you move up 3 or 4 spots, so you'd be looking at going from 19 to either 16 or 15.

If you have the 14th pick, I think you might be able to get to 10. But your limit either way is probably about 4 slots before the price goes up considerably, if the option even exists.

I definitely agree with Larry, the Rangers are most likely willing to bundle. It's a matter of what they have to work with, how much they are willing to throw into the pot, for whom are they willing to pay a premium, and which teams might be interested.

Just because the Rangers want to, doesn't mean they'll be able, or that a kid they like will even be available.

It's funny, I have no problem with it.

It's all business to me, and the difference between 31 and 60 is substantial. I could really care less about Tampa, I'm rooting for the Rangers to get the best asset.

The Winnipeg pick, and the possibility that it could be higher than we expected, runs the risk of creating a false sense of apathy about that Tampa pick. But we're talking about maybe a Dorofyev, a Tomasino, a Pelletier, maybe even a shocker who we don't think will be there.

That's a pretty big deal.

My head is nodding. My heart is shaking.

I don't know if it's because the Rangers gave TB their 2 1st's for MSL and they didn't cross that final hurdle so I am hoping for the same from TB?

Oh it’s delightful. If you think there’s a better season than spring, you are wrong. Wake up, remember the lottery; later, remember the playoffs, forget about lottery; watch playoff game, remember lottery, forget about playoffs.

I’m really trying to force myself, but my name is auf, and I’m a schadenfreude addict.

Eh, look at this way. We gave them two firsts, this would get us two back.

It didn't work for our last window, but the 2019 first can still be part of the next window.

Russian Sports Express site is reporting that Gusev, who's universally thought to be the best player in the KHL right now (or top-2 at worst) is on his way to join Vegas right now for the playoffs after his KHL season ended with SKA elimination. His SKA contract is being terminated.

Никита Гусев покинул СКА и в ближайшее время перейдет в "Вегас"

No retained rights possible if he moves to the NHL because he's already 27 so there's no need for SKA to keep him until April 30th
