His qualifying offer will be $6.5m. Doubtful they give him that next summer, hence him becoming a UFA.

Or they sign him longterm. Just b/c the qualifying offer would have to be 6.5 million, you can sign a player for less via giving a longterm contract (ie. 6yr/30mil).

RoR's camp structured it so it gives him more leverage in getting a longterm contract at the conclusion of the 2 year deal.

Yeah, but they'd have to pay him enough to forgo unrestricted free agency, unlike most RFAs.

Calgary just traded presumably a GREAT first round pick and a 3rd. Yes, the 6.5 QO is overpaid, but they are not going to let him walk.

They'll try to get a longterm deal, and at worst, overpay an additional year at qualifying RoR @6.5 if he doesn't agree to a longterm (or trade him).

Calgary won't walk and RoR won't be a UFA before his 7 years.

Kadri finally realized what he has to do to be an NHL player. Once he realized it, he sure does look good. So much skill.

Not sure if you guys really care or not but I just thought I'd post Rupp's first fight as a member of the Wild here.

Bit of a payback for Leafs fans too. They copped tons of flak on main boards for their praise of Kadri.

I'm a bit confused about this whole Ryan O'Reilly thing. I read that it is not about the money for him, and that he does not want to be in Colorado. If that is true, the Ave's must be thinking sign and trade, right?

They can't trade him for a year.
